Mechanized Heavy Weapons Platoons

I noticed that when creating a guard army using the mechanized doctrine that heavy weapons platoons needed chimeras. In fact, not only did the command squad need one but every SINGLE heavy weapon squad. I thought this was rather insane so I checked the codex to be sure and I discovered that heavy weapon platoons are not present under the definition of "guard infantry" so I'm pretty sure none of their units have to take chimeras.

Please look and see what kind of squads a Heavy Weapon Platoon is made up of and whether or not those squads count as a 'Guard Infantry Unit'.

Well, the wording says "any command squad" so I can see the command squad needing a chimera. As far as heavy weapons squads, the wording used is "attached" so I thought it was only referring to the ones attached to the HQ platoon (because the HQ platoon has mutliple things with the wording "attached" such as sentinels and special weapons teams). I read the entry for the heavy weapons platoon as a command squad and heavy weapons "alongside" or "included" or simply bought with. I suppose you are correct though. I guess I'm going to have to buy a new chimera for every heavy weapons squad :(.

Or, just not take mechanized. Also, if you think about it, it only makes since. A mechanized army is just that... mechanized. That means the infantry are mounted in transports for quickly moving about the battlefield. In real-life, this makes since. In 40k, it doesn't really seem too, unless you realize that the table you are playing on is a small part of a much larger battle.

If you wanna play mech, then you should tune your army to take advantage of the fact that you are mech. That's the reason why there are advantages and disadvantages to taking some doctrines. However, you could just use the transports to haul around grenadier squads, as they don't have to buy a transport.
