Magic Weapons with Light?

SeeleyOne

Well-known member
How do you select that your character's weapon can generate Light? I cannot figure out how to add it to the weapon. I did not see it as a special quality to add to a custom weapon. On page 468 of the Core Rulebook it says:

Light Generation: Fully 30% of magic weapons shed light equivalent to a light spell. These glowing weapons are quite obviously magical. Such a weapon can’t be concealed when drawn, nor can its light be shut off. Some of the specific weapons detailed below always or never glow, as defined in their descriptions.

I think what SeeleyOne is getting at is that there's nothing I the HeroLab weapon editor to indicate that a magical weapon sheds light. I would think the easiest thing would be to add a 0gp magic weapon property to do it, and add that to each weapon where it is needed. In the end, it doesn't change the characters' abilities.. it just means that some of them have the equivalent of a permanent torch. It matters more to the GM when s/he asks "who has the light?"

So none of you have found it either? It is an Official Published Paizo Rule, but is not in Hero Lab already? I guess I should report it as a bug then.

Y'know a rule which blew my players minds back in 3.5? Properties which add elemental damage aren't "always on", so if you want to whip out your +1 Frost Flaming Shock longsword to deal with some ambushing foe, you have to use a standard action to activate the powers. A standard action, EACH. That's 3 rounds before you're operating at full damage. SUUUUUCK.

When you make a weapon with light on the weapons tab just go to the "click to add new Special Ability". From there just scroll down and choose "Light Generation".

On the editor choose the "Weapon, Magic" tab. Click on New to start making your weapon. Under "Weapon Powers & Materials" click the "Edit" button for "Weapon Powers". Click on "Ass a Bootstrap". Scroll down and choose "Light Generation".

Sorry about the above post. I thought that it had been added by Lone Wolf. I just went over some of my very old user files and found out that I had added it myself. I had put it in as a 0 gp item power.

Do you do that for all of your magic weapons? Because creating them like that in the Editor is basically for making unique weapons. If you just want a +1 Flaming longsword, you can do that on the character's "Weapons" tab without using the Editor at all.
