Link creation with multiple alternative spellings

OK, so this isn't as important as some things (like custom calendars, for example), but it would be great.

Like many of us, I've developed multiple cultures and these cultures have different names for things. Some might call a city Constantinople and others Istanbul, for example. I would like for there to be a way for the automatic link creation system to recognize both of these and link them to a single common topic.

Probably the easiest way would be to have the topic page itself have an additional, special field up in the title area (above the snippets) in which alternative names for the topic could optionally be added, either in multiple fields or comma-delimited within a single field. That would be unambiguous and straightforward.

Thanks for your consideration --

By any chance, have you looked at the "Alias" mechanism? I believe that's exactly what you're asking for. If not, please clarify how this is different from aliases so we can understand what you're specifically looking for.

Hi Rob - So that's pretty much exactly it. Thanks so much. After you cued me that it existed, I found the tools-menu item to manage aliases.

It did seem like something that you all would have thought of already.

Thanks again!
