I've just gotten into L5R. All I have so far is a Fire & Shadow deck and a Scorpion Clan Coup deck. Anhow, I was wondering when files for the older sets will be available.

They are being worked on currently. I have about 5 sets in debug, and the rest
are being put together. Thank Ed Bolme for doing the grunt work :)

I wouldn't hold your breath on waiting for Card Vault to be of any
use for L5R unless you are someone who only plays Gold only format.

I am VERY disappointed right now in my Card Vault purchase for just
this reason. I bought it MAINLY for my L5R collection of which I have
cards from Imperial all the way up to Oni's Fury or thereabouts. And
when I heard Card Vault supported L5R, I was all excited about it.

Then I found out it only supports Gold format, so I can't enter 90%
of my collection. And even the sets it is SUPPOSED to cover, it only
covers the Gold cards in those sets (so it's useless for Spirit Wars
since a lot of cards with Jade Only bugs are totally missing). And
even the Gold promos aren't complete. "A Perfect Cut" is missing for
one thing.

I asked way back when I bought the program when they might be getting
to L5R cards before Gold. I was told they were too busy right now,
maybe I'd like to do it myself if I wanted them so bad. OK, fair
enough, I asked, I'll help. So I sat and compiled a complete listing
of the set before Spirit Wars, Soul of the Empire as a place to
start, a 200+ card set. I researched it, entered all the cards,
including every single flavor text and submitted it.

Have they been uploaded yet? No. V 1.3 still doesn't have them. Any
acknowledgment of the work I did? Well, I guess if they don't post
the set they don't have to acknowledge it. Now I read a message that
they have 'about 5 sets in debug'. Oh, really? Thanks for letting me
know so I could stop pulling down spoiler lists and coordinating
things for when I was going to start the next set. (Which I wasn't
going to start until I saw the other one I did posted. It was a lot
of work and I wanted to see it first before going on to the next one.)

Though actually, I guess I would have gone backwards and tried to
figure out what was missing from Spirit Wars (note there's no notes
anywhere saying that file or set is incomplete, but I guess if it's
not Gold edition, it doesn't exist.)

Anyway, Card Vault is a great program. For HeroClix, for Shadowfist
(the guy responsible for Shadowfist follow through at least), for
Doomtrooper, for Star Wars (decipher anyway). But L5R? Don't sit up
waiting for it to be useful any time soon.

Actually, I have (at present) up to Crimson and Jade in alpha testing.

As well as SoE, which you did.

First of all: It was targetted only at gold (which was the majority of the
current L5R cards being played), so there was no support for Jade.

Ed Bolme from Lone Wolf has been working with me to get the rest of the card
sets finished - Lone Wolf takes its customer support very seriously. Any fault
lies with *me*, and I am doing what I can.

You have now done the data entry for part of one set, and I would have thought
you would have a better idea for what is involved. Since you did SoE, you have
not done any other sets, so perhaps you also understand that there are other
things in life that must take up your time as well. I have to take the stuff
you did, and add many elements (card restrictions, traits, other internal
mechanics) and then start testing the cards. Sign up for cv-l5r and you can
start verifying cards sets if you want this to get done faster, otherwise you
will have to wait until other folks get a chance to work on it and it is done.

BTW: "A Perfect Cut" is in there.

Yes you did, and it is in testing right now. I had hoped to get everything up
to Crimson and Jade released this weekend (actually, more likely Monday) now
that I finally have IE and EE in the pipeline.

Sorry if it was a lot of work... perhaps you can imagine the work needed to do
IE EE, PE, JE (all 300+ card sets) plus all the other releases. They all take
as much work as you did for one set.

The *ONLY* reason that the newest release was made (as it said right in the
release notes when you first go to load the set) was to correct errors in the
data so that the files would work with CV 1.1 - so that if and when people
upgrade their old data files all work seamlessly with the new program.

And yes, oddly enough I was waiting to acknowledge the work you did on SoE
until SoE was actually released. Silly me.

You could have *asked* rather than errupting in flames. If you had asked I
would have told you that:

* When you volunteered to help, I asked you to start at SoE and work backward.
* When Ed asked what he could do, I asked him to start at Imperial Edition and
work forward, so that he would not step on what you were doing.
* Someone else volunteered to help, so I had him working on fixed cards from
the decks... but then did not hear a peep more from him. Oh well.

You had not wasted time working toward the next set. If there had been any
risk, I would have left the set to you, since I knew you were working on it.

>From the Release text you see when the set is loaded:

"This is the latest release of the Legend of the Five Rings data. It contains
all cards from the Gold Era (Four Winds story arc), up to the Fall of Otosan
Uchi set."

I thought that "...all cards from the Gold Era..." was pretty clear.

Yah, like this weekend.

Considering you have acknowledged in your email how much trouble it is to do
*ONE* set, you might want to stop and count how many sets there are left to do
for L5R, and then perhaps you will have a little patience or at least sympathy
for those that are doing all that work.

Look, if anyone else wants it, I have the code and the data for someone else to
take over the L5R data. All you need to have is Excel (97 or later) and you can
have it all. I would not mind having all those hours I will otherwise spend
maintaining those files back to enjoy living my life!

Thus far, I have completed IE, Shl, EE, FK, AoD, C&J, and TotV, including
all typos, misprints and fixed cards.

I have finished cards for SCC, but need to figure out what was fixed in
which deck.

Once I can plug a few holes, I'll be done with JE, OE, and the preview
cards.

All old-bordered promos are done. Battle of Beiden Pass is on hold until
after I get HE and DJH done, plus figure out what was fixed in which decks.

This is a truckload of work. I think most people would have missed that
Accessible terrain was printed in two different versions during the HE story
arc.

I am not mentioning this to blow my own horn, but to say that we are
feverishly attacking the data gap.

As I said before, I have one of the SCC decks (Lion) and would be happy to help.

At any rate, this weekend or so for more L5R. Thanks for the info.

Tell me which cards are in that deck. All 60, just to be safe.

I have started work on all the decks from JE onward, since I believe I have all
of them still in the boxes.

Cool. All I need are the names, since I have the cards here.

But won't there be different flavor text on them, say between a Jade,
Obsidian, or Pearl Rallying Cry as an example?

Yes, there will. Different rule text and art credits, too. But I borrowed a
full set of SCC, and so I have all the card text, I just don't know what
cards went where. Ditto the HE set I am working on now.
