L5R Fixed Cards from Rolling Thunder

This raises an intersting point.

There is no way to differentiate between a Jade Works that appeared in SCC1
(Scorpion deck) and one that appeared in SCC3 (Lion deck). SCC was all
printed up at once as a set, so the cards are identical. The same is
(largely) true for the HE+DJH sets; the fixed cards have identical frames
throughout all the releases, and largely have the same rule and flavor text.

How, then, do we want to handle the fixed cards from those sets? Do I list
Jade Works as fixed in SCC1 and SCC3, even though they are not
differentiable; or do we just have SCC be a single release and drop all the
fixed cards in there, even though this prevents people from telling which
exact release a card appeared in; or do we have a separate pseudo-release
which lumps all the reprint cards in together?
 
I'd like the psudeo-seperate release for the fixe cards.

In general, it would be a BAD idea to create multiple "pseudo-releases" for
each of the different decks. The release should be SCC. The proper solution
is to define a tag group named "Pre-Built Deck" or some such. Then define
tags for this group corresponding to each of the various decks (e.g. "SCC
Lion"). Then assign the proper tag(s) to each card that appears in the
proper deck. This makes it possible to instantly filter on the cards
belonging in the deck and get just the cards in SCC3. Yet it also ensures
that the nature of a "release" is properly preserved and maintained for the
game system.

It is not really "psuedo-releases" for the different decks, it is a bit more
complicated than that.

FRPG/WotC created a new release mechanism called "Rolling Thunder". They would
print the cards all at once, but then release them over a number of months in
different "sub sets". This was first done with Scorpion Clan Coup. All the
cards were printed at the same time, but then were released as "Part 1", "Part
2", and "Part 3". From the buyers perspective, they were individual releases. A
CV user who is not into all the gritty details will see them as seperate
releases that are all part of the same story line, when in fact they were all
releases from the same set of printed sheets.

That is why a card in a deck for SCC1 is identical to a card in a deck for
SCC3. But they were released months apart.

However, given that the cards are exactly the same for all SCC releases, I
think that you are right that SCC should likely be one set, and a tag added to
indicate to which deck a card belongs.

This becomes problematic in HE, where there were 3 different print runs during
the set of releases - one for HE1 - HE3, one for HE4 - HE6, and a final set
that was released as "HE - The Dark Journey Home" when "Rolling Thunder" was
considered a failure and abandoned. The last 3 sets were released as one set.

I think that I will do these as 3 releases, since there could be differences
between a card printed in HE1, HE4, and HE/DJH.

Any input from L5R collectors?

With separate printings, I agree with having these be three separate
releases. In general, the definition of a "release" as far as CV needs to
distinguish it is equivalent to "printing".

I'm still thinking about the other issue with Warlord and multiple tags.....

I've decided that for me its best to separate the release icon from the
printing (although it is a little late to solve the issue for Buffy). My
new scheme for creating card tags will be:

<printing abbreviation>_<card number w/ abbreviation where necessary>


Using the card icon as the printing abbreviation just made things really
complicated -- especially when the card images don't actually match the
actual card icons. :(
