Is it possible to add a new tag with sub tags?

I am adding the Racial Abilities/Talents Topic Category. Each race has their own set of abilities they can choose from. Consequently there are mixed races in this game where you get to replace one or two of your primary racial abilities with another race (or two races) if you prefer. Currently I have the racial abilities tags set like this: Ceran - Cold Resistance (Minor), Ceran - Heat Vision (Minor), Gorsiva - Flight, Gorsiva - Low Pressure Tolerance> Where Ceran and Gorsiva are two of the races. Is it possible and how do I set it up so that when one clicks on the Racial Abilities to add theirs they are listed with each race and a drop down list with that specific races abilities?

Well, I'm using RW for organising my material while writing a novel. I have created a new topic - character - with a huge list of snippets, most of which are tags.

For example, hair. I have one single snippet-tag for hair, but I listed my hair tags in groups, the first one for size, the second for type (wavy, etc), and a third for colour. If an important (or tricky haired) character shows up, I just add a text snippet for a detailed description.

Now since multiple tags have a character limit, and I like to see the whole words, I can have a list like: (colour) dyed / natural / brown / blond / dark / light / reddish. Then I choose dyed + dark + blond.

The only drawback is that, after choosing the tags, they'll be presented alphabetically ('blond dark dyed' instead of the ideal 'dyed dark blond').

So, in your case, you could have a list like:

race A
characteristic 1
characteristic 2
race B
characteristic 1
characteristic 2

Hope this helps.

That is a good idea and I was thinking of something a little similar. Your idea sounds more fluid. I'll have to look into it. Thanks!

It just occurred to me that, in your case, you can easily force the word for the race to always be the first tag: just make sure that the first character is always * or _ or -. Then the characteristics will follow.

If only that subterfuge were applicable to my case...

I'm not sure what you mean.....

I have added a snippet called Racial Abilities with all the Racial abilities as tags. The tags had race prior to ability. The problem is only the first part of it shows up in the preview pane. I think I am going to change it so the race goes after the ability. In this game (HARP) you can be a mix of races. Some races have similar abilities (e.g. Tough Hide), but it is manifested differently per each race (one race has tiny colored scales in hues of green shifting to a red, the other has leathery skin with coloration ranging from a light browns and greys to a rare white). The way they explain mixed races in HARP Sci Fi is through genetic engineering/tampering.

In a HARP fantasy game I recently ran I had someone play Dwarf/Gnome/Halfling mix....At least they had about the same height averages. I called him a Gnwarfling, which he took as his surname...lol

Lol I like that surname.

Well, I thought you wanted to have something like - race (e.g. Halfling) / ability (e.g. Flight) - but it would end up displayed as - Flight Halfling. Unless you started with one of those characters like - _Halfling Flight. Or, with a more complex hybrid - _Dwarf _Gnome _Halfling Flight Tough hide.

Although those abilities most likely make no sense for Mr Gnwarfling. :p

Nevertheless, I strongly suggest using short words (max of 10 characters) as much as possible to avoid getting them abbreviated. Although I may be alone in my distaste of abbreviated words. :o

I think I've just realised something: you're creating tags that have both race and ability, right? So:
tag 1: Ceran - Heat Vision

What I'm suggesting is creating something like

tag 1: _Ceran
tag 2: Heat vision

Then, when you're creating your PC or NPC you choose both tags and you will see it displayed as: _Ceran Heat visio. The 'n' of vision will not be visible because, when you have more than one tag chosen, you can only see the first 10 characters (unless you've created a different abbreviation to be shown instead).

In my Paranoia realm I put the Mutant Powers in as tags, but made the Mutant Power snippet type a single tag snippet. Single tag snippets always show the whole tag. If someone has more than one power they get more than one Mutant Power snippet.

This isn't exactly what I want because tags don't link to the related entry in the Mechanics Reference. I'd like to pick from a list of "everything contained one level below this topic/article" and the text becomes a link. Alternatively, let us assign a topic/article to a tag and the tag text acts as a link when not in Edit mode. (This one is on their radar.)

For things like hair descriptions what I'd want is a single line labeled text snippet, but we don't have labeled text snippets. (Here's one request thread.)

I played a Gnomeling in Hackmaster once. His motto was "All for one and that one's me!" :)

Unfortunately not all the abilities apply to all the races. If the character was primarily human and they choose the Silth racial ability of tough hide, I want it to show that the character has a genetic trait from another race.
Some players may choose (accidentally or purposely) human and then tough skin.

OK, I think I've finally got your point. So I guess Parody's idea of multiple single-tag snippets is probably the best option, in order to avoid abbreviations.
