Is there any way of performing some kind of stats analysis within CV's
inventory?

At the moment I have filtered down to only the (MtG) 8th Edition Foils I
don't own with quality Reserved, yet the Inventory header insists my totals
are:

Owned: 1 Excess: 1 Acquire: 38636

These figures bewilder me, because I've filtered out the owned>0...

I'd also love to be able to know how many of each rarity I still need to
collect...

The totals at the top-right always show your total card counts,
irregardless of the current filter.

>I'd also love to be able to know how many of each rarity I still need to

Under the inventory Tools menu, do a "Valuation Profile". That should
display a list of all the cards you own, want to acquire, etc, in all their
qualities, for the current filter. So if I understand what you mean
correctly, just filter for "Common", do a valuation profile, and check the
Acquire column total?

Hope this helps,

IIRC, that time CV was messing up for me, my total card counts were acting weird also.

Another thing that might be wrong is somehting you might've done with batch editing.

I just thought of another too, Colen, what is the highest number CV can handle, and what happens when you go past that number? With the amount of cards he says he has...

Then they are wrong - I definitely have more than 1 card "owned" entered
into CV for my Magic collection.

That solves the problem, although it's more work for me - it'd be nice to
have extra info added to Valuation Profile such as Rarity, or other user
selectable fields :)

Can't have more than 2 to 300,000 magic cards I'd reckon... plus maybe
100,000 from other games. Is that a lot? :)

If the card counts are wrong, that sounds like a bug. Are the consistently
wrong? Or were they fine next time you loaded Card Vault?

You would have to have significantly more than 50,000 copies (owned, excess
or acquire values being counted separately) of a single instance of a
single card recorded in the inventory to even potentially cause any
problems. And even then I think the inventory would just cap them at the
maximum values. Different instances are fine - you could have 50,000 of
every single version of Forest, for example, and you should still be ok.

The totals shown at the top of the inventory are supposed to reflect your
entire inventory. Consequently, the numbers you report sound very odd. Can
you identify what might be the common element of the behavior? If so, it
would greatly assist us in trying to reproduce the problem, which is key to
actually fixing it.

If you want to view totals for just the currently filtered set of cards, go
to the Tools menu and select Valuation Profile. You'll get a report with
the numbers you want.

You can get the rarity breakdown by employing separate filters for each
rarity and then generating valuation reports for each filter.

Hope this helps,
Rob

That's a VERY large collection. But CV ought to handle it fine. I think I
tested things out at one point up to around 500,000 cards in a single
inventory database. That was NOT during V1.3 testing, so it's possible we
inadvertently broke something in V1.3, but there should be no intrinsic
limits that folks bump their heads into. :-)

Reserved cards aren't counted, eh? Hmmm. Oh yeah, now I remember why...

Reserved cards must be omitted from all the totals that CV tracks for use
during deck construction. So instead of tracking additional numbers for
every card to distinguish reserved vs. non-reserved, they were simply
omitted across the board.

Why? Well, in the case of Magic, CV already has a large memory footprint,
and I try not to increase it without justification. The footprint is going
to get even larger if Robert (the data file author) decides to add foreign
language card information, which is something he's talked about doing. If
folks think that the reserved cards need to be included within inventory
but not during deck construction, then the additional numbers just need to
tracked and the memory footprint increased.

Thoughts? Preferences???
