Hi, I just started playing Inquisitor and wondered if you have got
anywhere?

Terry

Well AB is not set up for Inquisitor - tried hard but the problem is those
random stats over such a wide range meant the interface was very clunky.

I am getting on with both the XSL and XML definitions though so I'll
probably put together a small java app to let you create and store
characters as XML then use saxon to handle formatted output via XSL.

Realistically I'm a month off finished

Could you elaborate please? I have not seen Inquisitor yet, so I don't
understand the references you are making here. Please describe what you
mean by the "random stats over such a wide range". And let me know if there
is anything else that would be a big problem.

Thanks, Rob

In Inquisitor you can generate your stats by one of three mechanisms.
There are the pre-built profiles equivalent to special charcters
and there are typical stats for each class of charactyer which you are
allowed to tweak yourself. Lastly what was being referred to are the
random stat generation. For each character class there is a range of
stats in the format 50 + 3D10 or 60 + 2D6. They are expressed as a
percentage so most stats max at 100 but a few can go over.

I don't think that it would be necessary to simulate that random
element. You would just roll and enter. Maybe AB should validate the
result within an acceptable range. You could handle abilities and
equipment in the usual way but there are few restriction.

What doesn't suit AB possibly is the lack of points values. There is a
nominal points system which counts stats + abilities + equipment but
there are no set limits like in other games.

The ability to add notes and customise equipment would be very
important too. A big part of the game is the ability to improvise and
make up your own rules subject to the GM's approval.

Speaking of Inquisitor, I've started to produce some datafiles, it'll
take a long time though - I'm in my final year at university and I've
got exams coming up.

I'm producing the random stats by having an option to increase a stat
by 10, 20, 30 etc depending on the character. I plan on having limits
on the upgrades (for example you can't take more than 1 upgrade in
the 10's category)

I'll have an early version produced sometime this weekend - I've got
Tyrus, Slick and Barberetta done so far.

The only problem is working out a points value for the stats - its
easy for the pre-set characters, but for customs, I can't find a way
to do it. Any Ideas?

One fine day in the middle of the night, danbond@collingham.freeserve.co
.uk got up to write:

Is everyone aware that you can increase a +- attribute by 5 if you
shift-click, or 10 if you ctrl-click? This might alleviate some of the
difficulties you've been having... :)
