when using the 'configure character' interface, either when starting a new character profile or when editing an existing one, one of the options is to include SRD content that is not normally part of pathfinder. i've checked those boxes.... but dont find anything different. am i doing something wrong there?
 
That's for some of the older stuff that was part of the 3.5 data set (which was core only, so it was mostly races from the MM). At this point, I am not sure that there are things remaining in that source that haven't been updated for pathfinder in another source.
 
You'll get spells like cure minor wounds, and you'll get magic items like the brazier of commanding fire elementals, the horn of the tritons, and the pipes of pain.
