Imperial Guard - Rough Riders Issues w/ AB 3.1

Using my IG Rough Riders it's forcing my sargent to take a Lance, where in the Codex all it requires is a CCW and LP. Am I missing something, or is the problem with the Rough Riders having to attack with their Lance on their 1st close combat of the game. Any help is greatly appreciated.
 
However doing so should not prevent a Veteran Sergeant from then discarding the lance and taking weapons from the Armoury. He simply would not get a 'points rebate' for the lance.
