So, let me see if I'm understanding the current plans. You're going to make
available (as possible under copyrights) images of every card. So, will I
finally be able to determine which of my Mindstab Thrulls are version A, B,
C, or D? At a certain level, I'm not sure I care, although it would help
with identifying some of the foreign cards which I can't translate.

In other matters, not that you don't have enough things on your plate
already, I've noticed that sometimes, when I'm building a deck or open one
up, I get errors telling me I have inventory shortfalls or have exceeded the
maximum of 4 of particular cards. I also noticed, however, that this doesn't
happen with the first deck I build or open, only with subsequent ones. Last
night I opened card vault, built a deck, and it was fine. I then built
another deck, which uses some of the same spells (Counterspell, Arcane
Denial) and that deck had 3 or 4 false inventory shortfalls and 3 or 4 false
max-exceeded errors. I just thought I'd pass all the details of the problem
along. The decks show no errors if opened first, but errors will pop up when
opened second.

if possible, the datafile authors are going to provide the images.

this has been addressed and will be fixed in CV 1.3 (coming soon)

So will there be images for EVERY printing of EVERY card, or will there just be an MRP image? I would MUCH prefer the latter, esp as I know of no games where the old printings are used at all, and in that less images= mcuh less HD space. (not all of us have Gigs and Gigs to spare)

Also, will there/can there please be an option to generate a card image? i.e. the author tells CV where the card text, card name, stats, etc. go, and CV would render a proxy of the card (lacking artwork) that can be viewed within CV and printed out?

For that matter, will users be able to print the downloadable card images to use as proxies?

All of the above I would be much in favor of :-)

Scientists have shown that the moon is moving away at a tiny yet measurable distance from the earth every year. If you do the math, you can calculate that 85 million years ago the moon was orbiting the earth at a distance of about 35 feet. This would explain the death of the dinosaurs. Well, the tall ones anyway. -- Unknown

In answer to your question on images, separate artwork for each version of
every card can be specified within the CV data files. Whether or not the
publisher makes all the versions available is a completely different
matter, and one we have no control over. If the publisher only makes one
piece of artwork available, then all instances within CV will point to the
same artwork.

As for the bug you point out, it has been fixed in V1.3.

Thanks, Rob

This depends on what images are made available by the publisher and used by
the data file author. CV supports having a separate piece of artwork for
every version of every card ever published.

Users can also control which images they do and don't download on a card by
card basis. So you will only utilize as much disk space as you choose.

This is already supported in V1.2 via the addition of CVProxy. Proxy cards
are included for a few games at this point, including Magic, L5R, LotR, and
40K. Proxy output can be added for any game system.

No. First of all, the screen image quality will look like crap on a much
higher resolution printer. Secondly, this would get into problems with the
various publishers. Viewing things for reference on the screen is one
thing. Printing them for use is an entirely different matter. Our goal with
CV is to complement the games and be seen as a benefit by the publishers.

Firstly, and I forgot to bring this up before, would you be able to view the card image in both the inventory AND deckbuilding screens? How will the card be viewed? Will there a popup window like the quicksearch one? Will the entire way CV screens are setup change? Something else?

For the following questions, I'll assume card images are available for viewing in both Deckbuilding AND Inventory.

So then, will there be an option to view specfic version in the deckbuilding screen? Will you be able to easily switch between versions? If a user DLs only one version, will it by default show for all versions in Deckbuilding AND Inventory?

I meant can a proxy be rendered to be viewed in the place of the card image, if users don't want to download the images. And I was thinking a button by the card image window/whatever would be a good place to put a "Print Card" button, but since users won't be able to print card images, nevermind. Which brings us to...

I could guess your answer for this one, but the only stupid question is the one you don't ask;-)

Viewing the card image is now part of the "View Card Details" form. You can
toggle between which of the two viewing methods you prefer. You can cycle
through cards just like V1.2. You can therefore view card images equally
between deck construction and the inventory manager.

Each instance of each card has its own artwork URL specified for it. So you
can view each version of the card as distinct. If the author wants to have
multiple cards point to the same artwork, that can be done, but that is
entirely up to the author.

The artwork must be retrieved separately for each card. CV doesn't try to
read minds and guess what you want it to do, since that ultimately screws
things up for most users (just look at most products from Microsoft for
blatant examples of this).

Not in V1.3. We looked into doing that, but it proved to be more work than
we had time for with this release. If there is demand for it, we can add it
in a future update.
