I'm back and I have a problem....

Erich

Well-known member
Hi all,
Well, life has been kicking me in the nads for a few months, but I seem to have things under control now.
Anyway, it looks like someone has found a bug in my Space 1889 file.
Apparently, the weird science edge doesn't work.
I tried renaming the edge to arc89WS, but when I try to test it I get the error

edg89Weird bootstrap thing does not exist

Any suggestions to correct this?

Thanks
-Erich

You renamed it from edg89Weird to arc89WS? In which case something else is still referring to edg89Weird is all. Use an xml editor and just do a search and replace. Although if I remember right you might want to call it something like edgArc89WS, I'd have to double-check what it is the New Power edge is looking for to make sure. Just remember that an AB basically needs 3 things, an Edge, a skill, an AB and in some (most, really) cases you'll also need a Drawback. The Edge and the AB kind of depend the most on each other, though, and you already caught the naming issue if you want to use the standard arcane Edges, it sounds like.

Two things:
Z is right, it sounds like something is still referencing the old name.
Also, for the Arcane Background Edges, you might want to use the pattern edgArc for the first 6 characters. It flies in the face of the rule that all Setting file objects have the two-letter code for the setting right after the object identifier (edg in this case). The reason for this is that some of the filters for validating arcane Backgrounds use a template of "edgArc?" to check to see if the hero has an Arcane Background.

OK, I have corrected and tested the weird science edges.
However, I can't remember how to add them to the updater.
Can someone remind me?
Thanks
-Erich

Make the changes in your file.
Run the Export tool to create a .hl (remember to change the version number!)
Swap the new version for the file where ever it is posted online for download (dropbox?)
Get into the the data file author login at Lone Wolf
Change the download URL and version number and make sure it's checked as new and save it
It should be good to go.

Did I miss anything?

Thanks CC.
I think that about covers it.
Now I need to find/remember my file author login and password...
