Ignoring Topics for Links

Erdrix

Well-known member
If it is not already possible, I would like to request the ability to opt Topics out of Link Scan.

Example: I have a room in a dungeon named "Stairs" now every time "stairs" shows up anywhere, RW tries to link to it.

What if he has many dungeons, each with stairs? :D

I think I'd be inclined to support this one as I find it annoying that Topics I have who best have a standard name get "hit" in the link scan constantly.

No idea how difficult it'd be to flag a Topic as hidden for the link scans, but hey, I have faith.

That was just one example. I have a topic container for armor and one for weapons to organize my gear list and now those two words are flagged constantly.

+1 from me.

Having Climb as the name of a skill topic causes too many false links :-(

I have an alias set up "Climb check" which I would want to link to that topic, so aliases should still link even though the basic topic title doesn't link.

Even if this gets approved as a feature, it's still going to take some time to implement. So I just meant, in the mean time . . .

If I were in his shoes, and I had many dungeons, each with stairs, it would make as much sense to me to name them all "dungeon stairs" as it would to name them all "stairs". :-p

(Who the hell is Sleet, and what possessed him to ride a tarrasque?)

I'm just requesting the feature so we don't have to keep doing that. ;)

Having hit this in converting Adventure Path volumes, I just change the topic names so that they are not that generic. I try not to have "stairs" or even "dungeon stairs", but I may have "sliding trap stairs" or something like that. I also don't create a topic for a location if there's nothing else to say beyond "it is a staircase". A bit of text in the spots where the stairs begin and end may take care of a lot of that.

That's partially why in my discussions of "what's worked for me", I have said "be prepared to make changes". Things that worked on paper, like labeling multiple locations with the same name ("kitchen" is common, I've found) don't work as well in RealmWorks. Sometimes that means I also have to change a reference in the text so that it does line up and be recognized for a link, but that has saved me a lot of grief.

None of this pertains to mechanics, though, as I am not entering mechanics until I see what kind of packages LoneWolf is able to offer from the publishers when the Marketplace is up and running.
