How to pull a stock monster in

Hi,

I'm relatively new to both PF and HL but think it's awesome when I know what to do.

Problem is, I'm having difficulty pulling in Shrieker from the stock portfolio's. It's all a little confusing as there seems to be numerous ways of getting hold of datasets, one being by purchasing through HL and others via community sets included elsewhere.

Well, I'm trying to pull in a Shrieker to be able to use in tactical view and a quick google for the resource it should be found in is Forgotten Foes, so 'checking' CB - Forgotten Foes in my 'Configure Your Hero' settings presumably makes it available for me but .... when I try to import stock hero again there's no reference in the list to Forgotten Foes and looking in just about every other resource listed there, probably about 50+ reveals nothing.

Would someone be willing to explain how the resource, stock, etc system works and specifically why I can't figure out how to import a shrieker :)

Much appreciated,

Thanks

Zim

For the CB we don't have a .stock file for every monster. The CB already takes over a gig of space so if we added EVERY monster it would be insane.

This means the monster may exist in the data set but you have it build it more like a character. So after checking the Forgotten Foes source you would go to the "Race" tab and try and select the Shrieker race/monster. I can't honestly tell you without access to HL if Shrieker was done or not. If it was it will show up in the list.

The Stock files are just a portfolio already done for you. So if the monster has weapons, armor or equipment then it will open with them. As that is not always needed taking up double the space for a monster (Once in the .user and once in the .stock) is just not currently feasible.

We do have lots of .por files done for Encounters for the Adventures and Modules.

Hope that helps some.

Problem is I don't know how to be sure I genuinely have FF being viewed. It's checked under the 'configure hero' setting but I don't see any reference to it in the 'Import Stock Hero' list.

Sorry for being a bit dumb, just don't understand the mechanics yet.

Thanks for your help anyway :)

From looking at the PFRPG_Forgotten Foes.user, it looks like the only race added is the Grimlock.

Zim, I don't know if others from FF will be added later or the status or anything as I didn't create the file.

That said, it doesn't look to be too hard to add into HL, so if you aren't sure how to do so or if no one else is working on it, let me know and I can help you get it in.

I'd really appreciate that, I like to get into the inner workings of things and I'd much rather learn how to contribute than simply receive on a plate. What do you recommend I do to get learning, ta.

Editor FAQ Question#2 has all the places to get help on learning the HL Editor. While most monsters don't need allot of scripts there is a four part video tutorial for learning to script also.

Thanks,

I'm already going through the HL tuts so that I can also create the Warsmith class which I've used for years in my 2ed AD&D campaigns and is naturally missing from the base Pathfinder stuff much to the chagrin of a Dwarven Warsmith in my gm'd party ..lol

This stuff will be extremely enlightening too, thanks.

Entering classes is one of the hardest things to do in the editor. In ShadowChemosh's signature is a link to the video tutorials also. You might want to go view those as well.

The best place to start with the classes, is to just enter the abilities in as text first and attach them to the class. This way you can make sure that they show for the class correctly, then work on the coding portion.

The FAQ I pointed him to covers ALL help available including the YouTube videos. :)

Yep this is the best way to go at first as Classes are made of so many different "Things". You can often use Adjustments to start and then focus on scripting one "Thing" at a time or it can quickly overwhelm a person with the amount that needs to get done.

Thanks both. I'll go over all the stuff you've pointed me at, learn what I can and report back in a short while asking anything that may still be escaping me.

Again, thanks.
