How to handle magic

These are probably stupid questions, but here goes.

1. How do I add a custom wondrous item like a dagger that detects undead (but has no plus) or gloves that add to DEX instead of a belt?

2. How do I track charges for items like wands outside of play? I saw where I could enter the number of charges when creating a custom wand and I found the in-play section where I can count charges used but I want to apply that back to my permanent inventory. How can I do that? Or can I?

These are probably both obvious but I can't find them.

Thanks.

For the gloves just press the New Copy button in the editor, choose a belt that adds Dexterity that you want. Change the name and unique ID. Change the slot that they go in to hands. Change other misc. stuff (price, weight, etc) and there you have your gloves.

For wands (and other things with quanties/charges) click the little tool icon to the right of the item, decrease the amount of charges under intial charges, press ok.

If it is an item with multiples then press the "x" icon to the right of the item, press the number of items to sell to decrease the amount to the current amount, then press ok.

There is a four part video tutorial that turns a cloak of restiance into a cloak of protection. The concept is pretty much the same Turing the belt of Dex into gloves of Dex. Plus goes over how to use the basics of the editor. My advice would be to watch them to get started. :)

See THIS post.

Hope that helps.
