HL Encounter Library and Prepping in RW

Hi all, search of the forums turns up nothing specific to this situation. I've watched Daplunk's videos for tips, but this isn't addressed, near as I can tell.

I bought the Strange Aeons AP for HL, and I want to prep it in RW. I'd like to have the rooms set up with the HL portfolio in place to click as a link to head right into HL and tactical console. I can't seem to figure out how to do so.

When I make a snippet for a HL portfolio, or a scene portfolio, it only allows me to load from file. I can't locate a file with the encounter library to pick a specific encounter out.

Do I have to go through the whole encounter library in HL and save them all as individual portfolios so I can then load from file? If so, it removes some of the shine from buying the encounter library and using both programs to make the table run smoother.

I'm concerned I have overlooked an easy way to do this and am looking for a little guidance.

Ok add a HL snippet. Go into edit mode and a button appears on the snippet to create new content. When clicked it opens up hero lab. Add monsters to the Hero Lab app and once finished simply close hero lab.

It's kinda covered in my working with custom monsters video starting at about 7 minutes. Just instead of creating a custom monster you just add as many as you want in the encounter using what ever option you like within HL.

Go into Hero lab and create a portfolio. Save it and see what happens when you add it manually. Does that trigger the ability to edit?

It sure doesn't work to go to HL. I can see the statblock(and it is correct in all details for the paladin I borrowed for the test), but when I try and "Open within Herolab" it lists "Unnamed hero [no file]" and then says "Unable to integrate the external object" and halts. Interesting. Also, no ability to edit.

Imported the character in question from the encounter library, saved the .por file. Linked it in a new HL Portfolio snippet, saved and tried to open, same behaviour, although it identified "Winter Klazcka" [no file] and throws the same error message and halts.

Did some poking, looks like Herolab is not in my registry for windows. Doesn't show up in the uninstall list, doesn't exist for any real purposes as far as windows is concerned. Reinstalling now, we'll see if that makes for a happier life. Too bad I also nuked my RW installation. To the downloads!

Fixed the issue. Thanks for the help Daplunk. Reinstall registered it in the windows registry, RW is playing nice.

Running on Windows? I've heard the apple guys talking about having hero lab installed but running realm works in a virtual. LW has confirmed the two apps won't see each other in that scenario.

Admittedly too late to be useful for the OP, but potentially useful for others in the future...

If you don't see a proper Hero Lab icon within RW, then it means Hero Lab has not been installed in a manner that RW can detect and communicate with. When only a head silhouette is shown with a tiny HL beaker badge on it, you can view the contents of the HL portfolio as a statblock within RW, but there is no communication between the two products.

Our assumption is that there may be users who are interested in RW but not HL. So we have to behave smoothly for those users, allowing them to see the statblock embedded within the HL portfolio, but that's all we can do. :)
