HL editor file copied to other user's HL data directory?

I have put together a .user file of edits I have made in the HL editor. I hoped others in my game who use HL could copy the file to their HL data directory and make use of it. However, so far, this hasn't been working.

Is this sort of thing not possible? Or does something else need to happen to make it work?

Is that an error that Hero Lab is generating, or Windows?

Are you sure the file made the transfer intact, without getting corrupted somehow?

I have not seen my player's screen to know the exact error. I was wondering if HL had some copyright issue that would prevent it. But it sounds as if, as long as he does everything correctly, it should work. The file could, for all I know, be corrupted somehow. I'll work with him further.

Thank you.

User files are totally meant to do this. I have a whole package for my own games. Take a look at THIS page (specifically the "how to install a .user file") and make sure your player is putting the file into the correct location.

For non-techy players it maybe worth putting together a .hl file instead which is like a installer for HL that installs user files. See THIS page on LW's main site. Its for setting up a .hl file for use on a iPad but once made you can use these in windows or mac. The gamer would download the .hl file and simply double click on it. The installer would start HL and install it all for them. ;)

P.S. - If your really techy you can setup a web server that HL can download from and will even tell your players when a new update is found. Just an FYI...

I may ask about the server thing later. Much later. Right now I am still trying to learn how to do basic things with the editor, but I will keep it in mind.

Thank you, however.
