Hero Lab web client

Hi,

I think that now and more in the future many customers use tabletts like ipad etc.

Is there a possibility that you develope a Hero Lab Web client? I don't want to have the same functions like the full client. I only want to upload my hero file, see all stats and adjust hit points, set conditions, mark the use of spells (if possible with description) and so on.

A very good example is the www.iplay4e.com page. There you can import your D&D character builder file, You can adjust hit points, view powers (with a active Insider account) etc.

As a enhancement to the Hero LAb software I'm willing to pay for it.

Thx for your answer.

Ken

One of the features HL has is that it doesn't require internet access.

i have to run it in a VM (because I use MacOS), but I can live with that better than I could live with a web version.

Now the difficulty (in man power) of making a web version concurrent with a local exe is large. The difficulty of uploading custom .user files and other issues makes this impractical, no?

Another problem would be authentication... Right now, Hero Lab has a very sophisticated method involving specific codes for specific computers to prevent people from buying one copy and having the entire gaming group using it. Honestly, I don't know that a web app would work with that.

On the other hand, I know there's an Army Builder output for iPhones that's essentially just a specialized web page that allows for things like expanding sections of it. Maybe eventually, an output like that could be done for Hero Lab, just enough that it exports basic conditions and knows what to do if you check certain boxes.

^_^ Always worth asking.

A web client is a great idea - a number of people have asked about this, since it would mean they could use any system with a modern web browser, no matter the operating system.

We haven't gone that way until now because (in our opinion) internet access isn't quite prevalent enough yet; someone with a laptop still wants to use it when their internet goes down, or when they're at a games convention that doesn't offer free wireless access. However, within a few years that's likely to change, so we'll definitely be investigating the possibility of offering some sort of web-based version of HL. :)
