How do I change the statement below to give the item a +10 compentence bonus

perform hero.childfound[skDisable].field[skToolMod].modify[+,10]
 
skToolMod is a newer field which supports history tracking, so that line looks different than it would for older fields. For a competence bonus, try:

#applybonus[BonComp, hero.childfound[skDisable], 10]
