I am trying to load a .user file I I created with the editor. Unfortunately, I can't. Whenever I go to add it to the hero setting on the Configure Hero screen, the User Sources checkbox is grayed out, saying no user sources defined. I have saved (obviously) the user file as well as tested and compiled the file within the editor with it saying the spell (currently the only thing in the file) ready to use in HL. I have tried restarting HL (a few times) but with no luck. Am I missing a step?

I'm not sure what's going on, so I'll just run down the list of errors I've seen in other cases.
Sources aren't generated automatically - you have to specifically create a new user source (in the Sources option, which is the last option for all editor entries) - without a source defined, the thing in question will always be available.
.user files must be in the c:/HeroLab/data/pathfinder folder, not one of its subfolders.
.user files are only loaded if they're in that folder when the Pathfinder game system is selected (or press ctrl-r while in Hero Lab if you move the file into the folder while Hero Lab is running).
Make sure Hero Lab isn't complaining about the files you have loaded while it loads Pathfinder - if there are major errors with any .user files, HL will not load any .user files, since It's not sure what depends on what - that way, you can use the editor to fix the problem, and then reload (ctrl-r) once you've finished your fixes.
