Help! I want to create a slurk rider....

I want to create a Kobold Slurk Rider, and mechanically I can, but I can't figure out how to do so on hero labs. There is a Kobold feat Slurk Rider, and all the background support etc is there, however Slurk is not listed as a mount option, do I need to purchase an expansion or something? The only thing I can think of is to build the Slurk as it's own character, which kind of defeats the purpose of the program....Any help?

The Slurk is in the Pathfinder Bestiary 2. If you've added that to your Hero Lab license, you can create a new hero in your Kobold's portfolio, and choose "Slurk" as the race.

So there's no way to actually build it as your mount though?

I'm not sure what you mean. When you add a mount, you have a portfolio that contains two characters. Your character, and the horse (or whatever you chose as your mount).

With the method I described in my reply, you would have a portfolio that would contain two characters. Your kobold and the slurk. Unless I'm missing something, the end result is the exact same thing.

Whilst a mount appears as a separate character in the portfolio, it also appears on the "Mount" page/section of the owning character.

Also, if you were to delete the main character it would also delete any mounts associated with the character. (It probably imports the associated mount into a new portfolio if you do import character on the main character.)

This linkage would not occur if you just created a separate character in your portfolio for the mount.

I'm worried about correctly balancing stats etc. Mounts will auto level with your character and have all of the correct modifiers for being a mount so that it's hopefully not destroying everything or rolling over ko'd every fight.

I am aware I can modify a Slurk myself, but I'm hoping to avoid that. Also as I level up I don't know what I would level my slurk up in(When you create a new character the most relevant "class" I can find would be Advanced Animal Companion, but that's not quite right), or if I'd just have to find another way to change the relevant stats.

Are there rules for how a Slurk functions as an animal companion/mount? If so then we should create it in the core, if not you should make this in the editor.

The flavour text for Slurks says that Kobolds use them as mounts. So I've been trying to figure out how. And since there's the Slurk Rider feat already in the game, it's always struck me as weird that they aren't actually available. As they're magical creatures they don't usually show up in the drop down list. There is a 3rd party expansion called Amazing Races: Kobolds! That includes a Kobold cavalier Archetype for riding Slurks, but I haven't looked into how extensive that is, or how well balanced. Mostly I was hoping that maybe there was something core I missed, or a way to simply overlay the basic mount template on a creature that isn't usually allowed.

If you're interested/willing to add that I will definitely take a look at the editor, I've never used it though :P

It seems like this thread is going in circles. So let me try and clear up some wording.

Mount - A generic term for any "creature" that can be ridden. This can be a camel, horse, donkey, elephant and MANY others. These have no special rules and the creature DOES NOT advance with the PC. These creatures also match exactly to the rules in the Bestiary.

Animal Companion - This is what a "Druid" character gets as a special creature. It has very special rules and does not match to the Bestiary entries. These are built special in Hero Lab to match the special rules. They will advance with the PC.

@Honeyb34r so Aaron is asking you if he missed the Animal Companion rules for a Slurk that was officially published by Paizo. Slurks showed up in Bestiary 2 but no "Animal Companion" rules are located in the book.

So if you want a "slurk" as an Animal Companion you will have to do two things. The first is work with your "DM" to figure out the rules for it as an animal companion. Look at OTHER Animal Companion's for guidelines. After you have that figured out on paper then use the HL Editor to enter said companion into the game.

What others have mentioned you can do is go to "Gamemaster->Show Encounter Builder". Then search for "Slurk" and add this creature to your character (you will need Bestiary 2 license) so that can keep track of your Slurk.

Hopefully that helps...

@ShadowChemosh I've been using mount and animal companion somewhat interchangeably, I guess that's my mistake for forgetting to make it obvious that I'm trying to create a Cavalier Kobold who rides a Slurk.

We own the appropriate Hero Labs content to have Slurks show up as a race, we were just hoping for maybe a template of some sort to overlay on the Slurk instead of building one ourselves via that table :)

Or what I was hoping was that I had missed some way to simply create it as my mount/companion.
