Having trouble adding homebrew languages using the editor

I'm trying to add a few languages from my homebrew campaign to Hero Lab through the editor. (It looks a lot tidier than using the custom language option.) However, I'm having some trouble with it.

I tried adding a language via the "New (Blank)" button, but it refused to show up in HL even if I made sure the source was added correctly and checked in the hero config.

After a while of adding, testing, deleting, and re-adding, I finally got it to show up. But now it was greyed out in the "add languages" menu, with the red warning text "Your background doesn't allow you to learn this language as a starting language." despite not setting any pre-reqs.

I figured I could try using the "New (Copy)" button to copy a language I know is available as a starting language, Goblin. Now my custom language shows up without being greyed out, and I can add it, but I get a red-dot validation error saying "[language name]: Language may not be taken as a starting language."

This is getting frustrating. Any ideas?

I suspect that the list of allowed starting languages is coded into the character race/background rather than in the language.

I just looked at the race entries, and you're exactly right. Ugh, that sounds like a pain in the ass to try to fix.

I'll just add a "racial languages unrestricted" adjustment to each character. Much simpler.

Thanks!

The *Extend Thing tab can be used to add the tag to allow a particular language to a particular race.
