Having a problem downloading

Getting the error "Error writing file to disk. Please be sure that your disk can be written to and that you have sufficient disk space available"

I don't have any locks or anything with writing to my C: and I have 359GB open. Any ideas?

Hi, I'm thom1111's buddy & trying to help him with this issue. We've tried running it in both admin & non-admin modes with no success. He's got plenty of room on his hard drive & HL appears to be updated to the latest version (v3.9a). Should we possibly try reinstalling the latest update?

UPDATE: I was able to update his game files manually; it seems it's just the download/import interface that's having trouble, like it doesn't know where to point to for the downloaded files to go.

Yes. I'd do a complete uninstall, then run the set up file file as administrator from right click menu. Then alter the HL shortcut properties to run as administrator for all users.

This seems to work in most cases, at least when I've installed it onto a Vista upwards OS system.

That's actually not necessary with an update as of June or so. I had to run it as admin prior to then, but the move of the data files from C:\program files (or c:\program files (x86) to c:\ProgramData fixed those issues.

This error occurs when you've been running Hero Lab in administrator mode and then start running it as a normal user. The previous downloaded files were created with an administrator account, so the normal user can't access them.

Try the following:

1) Launch Hero Lab, and make sure you're not in administrator mode. (If you're an administrator, Windows will pop up a message before the program starts asking you to run it as an administrator.)

2) Load any game system, for example the "Authoring Kit Sample" game system.

3) Go to the Tools menu -> Explore Folders -> Program Data Folder.

4) An Explorer window should open. Switch to the "Download" folder.

5) Delete the files in the "Download" folder. If there's a "Compatibility Files" button in the toolbar, click it and delete the files in the folder that appears.

6) Try downloading the update again. Does it work this time?

Hope this helps!
