I'm truckin' along ABCreating my data files for OGRE, after a little trial
and error I finally got it to open in AB - WHOO HOOO!!! I have much refining
to do yet....

issue #1
I notciced (in AB) that on some of my units/vehicles I have "99" in a couple
of the stats, it should be "0" (zero). I can't seem to find any connection
between those that are correct (0) and those that are incorrect (99). This
is appearing in the upper half of AB but it looks ok in the lower half.

issue #2
I save freqeuntly (both Save and File, Save) but some of my stats are
reverting to 0 when I enter the next time to make changes.

issue #3
I'm having some trouble comprehending the "Stat set". I have read over it in
the manual but it's not coming to me.... As I understand it, ALL of the
possible stats should appear in ABCreator under the unit tab but how do I
link one particular stat set to the appropriate unit?

Thanks

Robert

These sound like the same problem to me. Did you at one point add new stats
to your datadef, after writing some data files? If you did, the stats that
you added won't be editable within ABCreator. To solve this, I think (it's
been a while) you have to save your data file to text, then use the ABData
command-line tool to generate the .ogre (or whatever your extension is)
files manually. Once you've done this, all will be well and you'll be able
to edit the new stats as normal.

The 'sset' unit local attribute.

I have noticed that in AB Creator the ‘save to text’ option is greyed out. I
presume that this is due to an action of the file originator. I have the
password for the datadef file but even if I reset that to ‘none’ I still
cannot save the data files to text. I don’t have an immediate need to do
that, but I am thinking if I need to make major changes in the future.

It sounds like the data files have been 'Locked'. Open one in ABCreator,
and select 'Information' from the Edit menu; if the Locked checkbox is
ticked, then the files are, well, locked.

Did you previously lock the files on a different computer, or did you take
them over from someone else? (Your comment imply that you did...) If so,
you'll need to contact the data file author to have them unlocked. If
that's not possible, and you need to unlock them in the future, let us know
and I'll see what we can do.

I did take them over from the original creator. He did give me the password
for the datadef file. I'll contact him and ask if he can open them up. Will
he be able to do that and preserve my additions or will he only be able to
do it with his last version?

How does the individual computer affect the files? I use several at
different times.

Good day, Terry.

If you run "abundef" from the command prompt with no parameters, you will
see the syntax required to input the password that the original author
provided. Once this has been done, you can change the password to something
you'd prefer in the datadef file.

Sorry if I am way off-base, I've only been kind of following this thread.
:-)

Cheers.

That works fine for the datadef file but it is the data files themselves
which are locked. There is no undef equivalent to ABdata.

Really? That's odd. I work on my data files both at home and at work. I
bring my CD with me and no worries.

Damn, those LoneWolf guys did a good job of protecting their software.

This was originally implemented way back when Army Builder 1.2 (or
thereabouts) had just come out. Someone decided to take the currently
available Warhammer data files, change the author information so that they
got the credit, and started distributing them. Needless to say, this was a
Bad Thing, and something that had to be fixed. There's always one person
who spoils it for the rest of us... :(
