Gestalting

I am a new user and have no idea how to make a gestalt character in HL. I am trying to build a Fighter/Summoner and failing miserably. I know there is currently no easy way of doing this, so I need some help please.

Also, is there ever going to be an option to make gestalt characters or is that not likely to happen?

The usual method I've seen bandied about is to make a summoner archetype that bootstraps fighter abilities.

I don't think gestalt is likely to happen, unless paizo makes it a part of the Pathfinder rules.

Well, I'll be happy to help you. What sort of changes does your character have when compared to a standard summoner?

After doing my Mythic stuff I think I have a alternate method. Be a little tricky to get working at first but would be more generic and could be used over and over again.

So instead of an archetype you add say a Wizard/Rogue then you add a special "Gestalt" class that removes two levels from the character. Their for making it a level 1 again. Then have it recalculate the BAB, saves, and skills based on the two classes Wizard/Rogue.

So each time you level you would add three classes (1 Wizard, 1 Rogue, 1 Gestalt) in the end only having 1 level actually count towards your real level.

Then you would still have a full Rogue Tab and full Wizard Tab. This also means two spellcasting classes could be supported. The frame work would not be much different from my Mythic Tier class that removes itself from the leveling process.

In theory the above works and if anyone really wants they could tear apart my Mythic data set to get about 50% of the code. Maybe someday when I really bored I will look into this but not right now. Too many other projects... :(

I thought I would throw that out their if anyone else had time and wanted a really fun challenge... :)

I gotta say that is an intriguing idea. I might look into when I'm taking a break from my internship scripting (but that's gotta come first, deadlines to meet and all).

I am just building a standard Fighter/Summoner gestalt character with no changes to the base classes. I had thought about having the Summoner Archetype where the summoner wears the Eidolon, but decided against it and to keep it simple. This is because the character is already kind of broken. I am running it as a Half-dragon Kitsune.

I'm not familiar with the Gestalt rules, can you be specific about what changes for a gestalted Fighter/Summoner as opposed to a normal Summoner?

Gestalt in a nutshell:

Pick 2 classes at 1st level. All abilities, Bonus abilities/feats, etc.. are used from both classes.
Use the best options from the two classes for Saves, skill points HP, etc.
Each single level of experience gained applies to both classes.
so for any Gestalt you would progress:

1/1
2/2
3/3
4/4
etc..

Only using the XP needed to gain a single level.

That's quite a kick up in power level!

So the difference is BAB and HD increase to fast and d10, Fort Save becomes good, gain several skills as class skills, gain Medium, Heavy, Shield, and Tower shield proficiency, and gain all fighter class abilities? Is that about right?

If so, good news! Almost all of that is as simple as filling in fields, selecting things from a dropdown, or checking boxes in a list. The only thing that requires scripting is setting the fighter weapon training into a different list, and there are examples of that in other archetypes (look at the Myrmidarch magus archetype, the eval script that runs at Final 99999999 does just this).

Can you take a crack at it and get back to me if you run into any snags?

When I've seen previous gestalt work on this forum, it's been accomplished by creating an archetype for the Summoner class that applies the changes due to being a Magus/Fighter.

If one of them is a spellcaster, always use the spellcaster as the base, and the non-spellcaster as the archetype, because archetypes can't currently add spellcasting to a class that doesn't have it. If neither of the classes is a spellcaster, use the more complex class as the base, so that you need fewer changes.

I'd search this forum for previous work on Gestalt. Fighter/Summoner seems like something that should have been created already.

This is the main existing thread about gestalting: http://forums.wolflair.com/showthread.php?t=11795&highlight=gestalt

I guess he's worked on Barbarian/Summoner and Fighter/Inquisitor, but not Fighter/Summoner. But, if you can get Mowgli to send you his fighter/inquisitor archetype, I suspect it's just a matter of duplicating that and changing the archetype's class from inquisitor to summoner, in order to turn it into what you need.

What would be really awesome, is if your product, which I love and use, would actually support Gestalt without the stupid coding. Most times I just put my Gestalt's on paper, using multiple character files as reference for the data.

It should not take Paizo putting out a book on it to make it something to be available in both the 3.5 and Pathfinder Herolabs set.

If you look on any RPG Gaming Forum , there is a post or 10 on the subject.

It would be a worthwhile effort to make it function in this wonderful product.
