M&M 2nd ed. Gestalt and Minions? (beginner within)

After a while looking up the subject of Gestalt in general, and not being able to figure out the limitations or total PP of the combined characters. I found this Hero Lab. I'm only testing it for now but I'm still very confused. Here's the situation.

I wanted to make a character for testing sakes that summons 5 minions, each of them is able to combine into a single form. I attempted to do this with the Hero Lab, but was greeted with a massive amount of Gestalt components on the dashboard. I'm pretty sure I'm doing something wrong, but I'm not sure what. I am new to HL, and probably don't know everything I need to do to create such a thing.

I also noticed each of my minions had 150 pp, where they were only suppose to have (with summon minion pl 10) 90 pp according to the rules.

The original purpose of this test was to determine if 1 minion was as strong as 5 minions combined. Based on the math so far, it doesn't look like it.

Just to be clear, your character is a PL 10 hero who can split into 5 components, correct? The system should flag your character if you buy more than 5 ranks of Gestalt (15 pp per Rank, half your PL). The components are at your PL level, but can only use half as many points. And yes, the Gestalt components are built as Minions attached to your character.

Are you getting a warning when buying that many ranks of Gestalt? (should appear at the bottom, click into the warning icon if there are multiple messages).

Well, I wanted to have my main character summon 5 minions. Those same 5 minions are also gestalt components to a "super minion". As it is now when I try to do it, I summon 5 minions, they in turn can "break" into 5 gestalt components. Which isn't what I'm after at all.

Ah. Gestalt works the opposite of how it looks like it should. It's applied to the combined form. So in this case, you'd want the minion in combined form, who then has the Gestalt. Technically speaking, minions aren't supposed to be able to summon more minions, but Gestalt, being inherently self-limiting (halving the PP each time) is generally fairly allowable.

I would point you to my one build using Gestalt, but it's not the clearest as I lost interest halfway through statting him up. Well heck, Mechanix Fair warning, he's pretty rough around the edges.

Well thanks for that. At least I can look at it and get a general idea of what happens with it. Now I understand more than I did this morning, and hope to have it all figured out and working by this evening.
