FREE secondary license!?

I just read, that I can obtain a FREE second license (to use HL on my laptop). How do I do this?!

I also read, that, if I have a new system installed (or bought a whole new computer), I have to Re-assign a license. Why do I have to Re-asign as well, when I buy additional packages (like I just did with the new PF-packages)? Did I do this correct!?

In the license menu at the top of the screen, choose "Obtain Secondary License". The license info will be emailed to you, and you can use that to activate the copy of HL you've installed on your laptop.

Each of your two licenses is assigned to a specific computer. You may move licenses between computers - for example, if you upgrade your main computer, you can move its license to the new version without affecting the secondary license on the laptop.

All of the extra packages and game systems you have purchased for HL are for your HL license as a whole, and are available to all the specific-computer licenses within that license.

Mathias covered the "how", and I want to add a little more clarification to your other question. When you activate your license, the process contacts our server and retrieves a keyfile that contains all the details associated with your license, including the computer that particular license is keyed to. If you switch to a new computer, you need a new keyfile that matches the new computer. Consequently, you need to re-activate your license obtain the updated keyfile in this instance.

If you purchase access to additional content for your license, you need a new keyfile that contains the new access information. The old keyfile on your computer only knows what access you had at the time you last retrieved a keyfile. Consequently, you need to get an updated keyfile from the server with all the new access included.
