Focused Specialist

I was toying around with HeroLab and was trying to figure out a way to create a Focused Specialist (Complete Mage), whether to list it as a variant class or what say you. After some screwing around, I decided the easiest way must be to just clone the wizard class in general and modify the general changes between the two (namely making the Forbidden schools up to 3, cutting each spell spell slot by 1 and increasing the gained specialized spells to 3 each). Everything seemed to be going fine, ported the class in and everything, but when I went to pick the specialized school and forbidden schools, it is showing no schools available instead of the normal list. I can't see any real discernible difference between the Wizard and the Focused Specialist files, so I'm not completely sure what I need to keep an eye out for in order to connect to the schools to the new class.

Hmm, this is an odd one, can you send me a copy of your user file for the new class? My e-mail is my forum name at wolflair.com

Another thread answered my question about the schools not showing up, but I ran into 2 new issues as part of trying to put this class together.

First off, one difference between a specialist and a focused specialist is that the former gets 1 bonus spell per spell level that is meant for their main school. The later class gets 3. Now, at first, I thought this would be a simple edit of the Secondary Spells/Level to increasing it to three. And at first, Hero Lab shows the change. But the moment I pick a Specialized School, they instantly revert back down to 1 instead of the desired 3. It only happens when I pick the Specialized School, the Forbidden ones don't trigger the change.

Second, each spell slot is 1 less for this class. So, for example, at class level 1, the default wizard class listing should be 3 level 0 spells and 1 level 1 spell, adding in any bonus spells. The focused specialist should be 2 level 0 spells and no level 1 spells, however he would still get any bonus spells for level 1 based on his Intelligence. However, when the level 1 slot is lowered to 0, the bonus spells no longer get added in. I'm assuming this is normal programming for the system, but is there a way to add in the bonus spells when there are no spells currently available?

im having the same problem, although i have not attempted to write my own character, i am merely trying to achieve the same goal.

Just checking in to see if anything had ever come of this? One of my players wants to play a focused specialist & I'm at a loss on how to accommodate him.

The Focused Specialist class variant is included in the current version of the community set. Just turn on Class Variants in the Hero Configuration window and you will see it there.

If you see any bugs with it, feel free to let me know.
