File editing problem

I'm having trouble adding Monk weapons from the Arms and Armor supplement.

I undersatand the general concepts needed to add weapons. What I am having trouble with is in saving the file.

I get a error message recommending to use the "save as..." method. Does that mean I shoudld creat a new weapons DAT file in the SOURCE folder, or just over write the the existing file

The instruction manual are very vague on this.

All new data files must be saved in the d20 folder... everything in the source folder is just there for your reference

Problems Still

Okay, I added the new weapon. Used "NEW(Blank)", created new id and
name, entered new data, saved entry, and then used "save as" to make a new file (weapon.dat) in the d20 folder.

Ran test. Got an error message about duplicate item encountered.

What am I missing?

Is your new weapon the only thing in the new dat file?

Yes
I have even tried just changing existing info, DSamage die or damage type, and still get the same message after saving to the d20 fiolder.

So no matter what id you give it, you still get a duplicate record error?? Do you have any other dat files in the d20 folder??

I don't know what else to say, I guess you'll have to wait for Rob or Colen to get back from the holidays :(

We're back! Happy new year, everyone :)

You should save everything in the d20 folder. The source folder is there
to give you reference material - if you try to save everything there,
the editor will warn you that that's probably not a great idea.

From the error you're getting, it sounds like you have two different
files in the folder, both trying to define the same thing. Look in the
d20 folder - how many files ending in .dat are there? Delete any extras
and stuff should start working again.

Hope this helps,
