Feature Request - Improved Gear / Item management

paradogmatic

New member
Hi -- I've been getting my feet wet using HLO to manage a new Starfinder character and I'm finding gear management somewhat frustrating.

My workflow at the moment will be to use printed / pdf character sheets in most cases but these issues in some cases persist in both use cases.

My main issue right now is tracking 'extra' unheld gear -- currently you can move it to 'droppped to ground' which is great and deals with the bulk issue of carry vs not carry but it is poorly displayed on both the play page and the printed sheets.

What would be ideal would be the following :

  • Allow for the creation of 'containers' which can either be held or unheld ( this will also help with location management of other gear be it - 'belt' or 'backpack' etc )
  • Distinctly represent those locations on the character sheet / play page with a named column, sorting by that column and then also logically separating the carried vs uncarried items into easy to view sections -- including bulk and effective carried bulk would also be nice here ( i.e. uncarried items can be ex : bulk 4 but effective bulk 0 since they don't affect your encumbrance )

I can probably mock something up to show what I mean if this isn't clear enough.

There are some additional issues on the printed character sheets but I'll submit those as a bug as they do not seem intentional ( i.e items all lumped into the equipment box rather than split out etc )

I like the core concept of HLO and look forward to improvements; from a usability aspect there are some things that have hit me as a new user and I'll bring up more items as I encounter them.

You should put that in as a bug report, if you haven't already; it helps the ideas get to the developers more efficiently.

I avoided it because the bug form says to put feature requests here and to their email. I will send it along to the email as well.

There's quite a few things we want to refine/improve regarding gear and containment. Please don't hesitate to make suggestions!

Having Items listed within the containers they are in on the sheet would be nice. I would like this in the classic program also.

I'd like to humbly request the following change/improvement for Starfinder HLO:

On the Play tab, middle column, box labeled Equipment, sub-heading "Ammunition(clips, tanks, and batteries)." I'd like to suggest changing the word "clips" for "mags." Two main reasons in my mind for this is that when I read, "clips" in a space-faring sci-fi game, I immediately think of carabiner clips that one would use to attach items to one's space suit. The second is that I doubt the guns used in Starfinder use old style clips for running rounds trough the chamber. From the artwork in the books it looks like they would use magazines that contain the rounds of ammunition.

Yeah, I'm a bit of a firearms nerd, so what. Don't judge me. :-p

Thanks for all the awesome work you guys do! You make complex gaming easy.

Not a Starfinder player, however I support this change :)

Personally, however, I have given up on the mag vs clip argument :(

I actually just did a search of the CRB and, much to my inner gun nerd's delight, they consistently used the word magazine(s) instead of clip(s). Therefore making this change would both be more consistent, and thus less confusing, in addition to satisfying our pedantry.
