Favored Class Option not showing up

My GM has come up with a few custom advanced races, so on the Background tab I choose Custom Race - Advanced and fill in the info. Everything is great, but he does allow some of the favored class bonuses from other races to show up for some of his homebrew races. So, to the editor I went! One of the favored class bonuses is the human sorcerer bonus, to add one spell known from the sorcerer spell list. I did a New (Copy) under Class/Favored Class Optn (gotta say I love the new tabbed look, by the way!) and chose the Human Sorcerer option. Under Available to Races, I changed it to Custom Race - Advanced, saved it, and clicked Test Now. Unfortunately, it does not show up under the Favored Bonus, even when I have Sorcerer chosen as my class (sorcerer is still checked under Available to Classes in the editor) and Custom Race - Advanced as my race. Is there something else I need to do for this? Thanks!

You have to bootstrap the FC to the class or race. Most likely for a custom race it's best to bootstrap to the race. On the race tab their is a button next to Favored Class Options to link your new FCs.

I didn't create a new race in the editor, though, I used the Custom Race - Advanced feature in Hero Lab. On the Background tab, where you choose the race of your character, one of the options under Race Builder is "Custom Race - Advanced" and I added the race through there, adding the custom racial qualities, custom racial traits, etc. So, I thought to add it in the editor to the Custom Race - Advanced race, figuring it would add it to any custom races I made that way.

I'll have to look into that.

Interestingly enough, if I change it the Available to Races to Any, it still doesn't show up.

Maybe I just need to sleep on it. ;)

Ok, so I decided to create the race itself, instead of using the Custom feature under background. The Favored Bonus still isn't showing up. I even added the Human Sorcerer favored bonus to the race, including the one I created (which was just a copy of the Human Sorcerer FC) and that doesn't show up, either, it still lists only +1 Skill Point and +1 Hit Point under Favored Bonus.

*edit* Never mind the above, I forgot to change the Favored Class Option to use the new race I created, so that is now working. Still don't know why it didn't work when I had Custom Race - Advanced chosen, though. But, it's working now, so I'm not too concerned at the moment!

The FC has to get onto the "hero" some how. This is done normally by bootstraping the FC to the Class or Race normally. If you have access to neither the Race or Class (like you have) you can do what Andrew said and make a Mechanic and bootstrap the FC to the Mechanic. This works because the Mechanic gets bootstrapped to the hero "always" and so will bring along anything else that is bootstrapped to itself. :)

Yeah, that I understand. I was just confused as I thought setting the Race to Custom Race - Advanced would do it, but now I see what you are saying about it being bootstrapped. I thought it would do that when I created the FC, which is where I was confused!

Thanks for the responses guys! I'll get the hang of the editor at some point. ;)

Favored Class options not loading for custom race

Resurrecting this thread as I've been running into a similar problem and unfortunately, some of the things said in this thread I'm just not getting, they may not even be relevant to my problem, but here is my issue;

I'm creating a custom version of Catfolk using the editor for my campaign, where wanting to give them different favored class bonuses, with selecting certain Human FC bonuses and certain Catfolk FC bonuses that are part of the vanilla rule set. So far nothing I've done has allowed the FCs to show for my version of the Catfolk (Which I've named Idiyva) when loaded into the hero creator. What I've tried to date is:

Creature Subtype
  • checked Catfolk [Unique Id: stCatfolk]
  • Checked Human [Unique Id: stHuman]

Favored Class Options
  • checked all the Catfolk options listed
  • checked a number of selections from the Humans list

Counts as Races...
  • checked Catfolk [Tag Id: Race.rCatfolk]
  • checked Catfolk [Unique Id: stCatfolk]
  • checked Human [Tag Id: Race.rHuman]
  • Checked Human [Unique Id: stHuman]
  • checked Iydiyva [Tag id: IdiyvaR1] (custom race name/unique ID)

Special Tags...
  • checked Catfolk [Tag Id: Race.rCatfolk]
  • checked Catfolk [Unique Id: stCatfolk]
  • Checked Human [Tag Id: Race.rHuman]
  • Checked Human [Unique Id: stHuman]
  • checked Iydiyva [Tag id: IdiyvaR1] (custom race name/unique ID)

Sources...
  • Customcampaign name
  • Advanced Race Guide [Source ID: ARG]

I've tried every variation I can think of of these headings of things to check or uncheck. Unfortunately, the instruction of" make a Mechanic and bootstrap the FC to the Mechanic" is not something I can make sense of, sorry kind of a dummy in this regard :(.

The race shows up in the background tab as a choice well enough, with all the other modifiers to stats, racial abilities, etc, the only thing I can't get it to do is assign the Favored Class options that I've chosen. I wanted to further subdivide this race into tribes that have further class niches, but tackling the top level building of the race first before I start to niche it down further.

Any advice on how to do the following would be greatly appreciated
  1. Get the Favored Class options to load correctly for the race in general and
  2. how to build the race with tribal niche specializations
