SR 5th ed. Essence hole

I was toying with Shadowrun HL and I noticed the character is refunded lost essence due to cyberware being uninstalled.

Did I miss something or is it a bug? By Shadowrun rules you get 'essence hole' which you can feel, not be refunded your 'immortal soul'.

Essence holes are not a rule that's been officially added to 5th edition yet. Remember, in 4th, essence holes aren't in the core rulebook - they're in Augmentation. So I'm guessing that once Catalyst publishes the 5th edition version of augmentation, those rules will be added back in, and at that point, the 5th edition version of the essence hole rules will be implemented in Hero Lab.

Have to disagree, per p.52 of the SR5 Core Rulebook:

"Each character starts with an Essence rating of 6, and it acts as a cap on the amount of alterations you can adopt. When it’s gone, it doesn’t come back."

While it may not be referred to as an "Essence Hole" it is explicit that essence is not returned.

Pretty much exactly that. Essence holes are kind of vital for the fluff of the system.

Yeah it actually is RAW and RAI that essence holes are a thing in 5e.
It's been confirmed multiple times by Catalyst employees and freelancers I believe.

This is where having so much material can mean something gets overlooked fairly easily.

From the SR5 Missions FAQ (versions 1.0 through 1.3) Can I Upgrade my bioware or cyberware
Remember, if you upgrade from 3 points of "normalware" to the equivalent in alpha grade, the alpha only takes 2.4 Essence points off, but you do not get the excess back
— you simply have a 0.6 point “hole” that can be filled with something else at no further Essence cost until the “hole” is exceeded.

While it might be argued that it is the Missions FAQ, much of the general information therein seems to make it into the errata and vice versa.
