Error: Preferences file not found

My wife clicked on Hero Lab to open it. Instead a window popped up stating:


Hero Lab Error


Error loading preferences file 'C\ProgramData\HeroLab\herolab.prefs'
Reason: Preferences file not found

A Backup file was located and restoration can be attempted. If you choose not to use the backup, all settings will revert to the initial defaults.

Would you like to try restoring from the backup?


We don't know what prefs we're going to lose, or what's going to happen if she clicks either button. She won't touch her computer till she knows what will happen. Please HELP! Thanks.
 
The preferences file, I think, is what stores what your default sources are and such things. Restoring from the backup isn't going to hurt or erase existing characters, if that is what you're worried about.
