Error Message

Paragon

When setting up a temporary portfolio for today's game, I got an error message from two of the six characters in my XCOM game; they don't seem to share any common traits that others not showing the message have (particularly neither of them shares any of the custom Edges I'm using for that campaign, so I don't think my .user file is doing this). When I load them I'm getting "Chained Pick trCharisma has been orphaned due to missing bootstrap in batch 48" and "Chained pick trPace has been orphaned due to missing bootstrap in batch 48". There doesn't seem to be anything unusual about their listed Charisma and Pace values not explained by their Hindrances.

Any idea what this might be about?

Are Charisma or Pace referenced in any of the things on those characters? If not, did you copy something like and Edge or Hindrance or something to use to make any other Edges or Hindrances that might have reference Charisma or Pace that you might have forgotten to remove those references from?

You might try opening the .user file in something like Notepad++ (or even just regular Notepad) and search for trPace or trCharisma to see if those are being referenced someplace you weren't expecting them to. Otherwise the errors don't mean anything particular to me so I'm not sure where else to look, but maybe those ideas will help.

And as I say elsewhere, the two characters have nothing in common not shared by one of the other four characters who is not showing an error. Very, very strange.

Are these higher level characters? Try re-creating the hero from scratch. That is a weird one. I've only seen it rarely, and I don't know that I've ever seen it applied to a basic Derived Trait before.

I had something similar happen. I made a Default Character Sheet for my World of the Dead campaign that I am running. While I was testing some things I had added them and then deleted them. However somewhere inside the character it still had reference to that so when I would make a new character it would have errors popping up for things that were no longer relevant -- things that the edges that I had tested referenced, but no longer existed on the character.

The fix is to make a new character file. Enter the data in again. The things that no longer exist will not be a problem unless, of course, you add them and remove them again. ;P
