Equipping gear with abilities?

Is there any way, or are there any plans, to make gear able to be equipped? I have a character with a set of Masterwork Thieves Tools. I would like to see the +2 bonus in the Disable Device and Open Locks skill checks. Of course, this is not the only gear I would like to be able to equip, but it is a good example. Perhaps the bonuses could show in the Misc column and add to the total.
