Encumbrance math

Can someone help me figure out where the extra 5 lbs. in encumbrance is coming from on Searos character?

I added up all the gear in the gear window and all I'm seeing is 22.44 lbs.

Granted, I'm really bad at math.

hmm. I thought I read that a empty spell component pouch is .5 lbs and a full one was 2 lbs.

I couldn't find "spell components" that would add the 1.5 lbs. so I just combined the weight of 4 pouches.

Am I doing this wrong?

Each spell component pouch weighs 2 lb for a medium character, so 4 of them weigh 8 lb total. You're looking to add weight for some Unspecified Gear? I'd say add a piece of "- Custom Gear -" name it "Spell components" and set the weight to 1.5 lbs.

Ah, on re-reading your post I think I understand what you were saying better. HL assumes waterskins and other things which list an empty weight and a full weight to be full, thus the spell component pouch is at 2 lb, rather than .5 lb.

Along those lines, why does the weight scale for small characters for a waterskin when it holds a specific amount of water (.5 gal)?
