E6/E8 Pathfinder Variant?

I used the search function but didn't find anything. Are there any plans to add an E6/E8 checkbox (or something) to the pathfinder character set up to be able to create character sheets for these types of variants? Our group is running one now and it just seemed like something that wouldn't be too hard to do...but I've not spent much time with the editor/creator system.

Yeah I'd like to see it done but I'm not sure why LoneWolf wouldn't be interested in creating a ruleset for the variant. This is the type of game variant that could be applied to 3.5, d20, Pathfinder, etc. and would really just restrict the types of feats that a character could get so I have to think it wouldn't be too hard to create.

My group is about to kick this off and after looking into it in terms of HeroLab, I'm not sure what it is they'd really need to do to support E6/8.

Let me explain - after a character hits max level, the only advancement is done via extra feats after gaining x amount of XP.

HeroLab already lets you track earned XP via the Journal method and you can add the number of feats you have via Permanent Adjustments. Should there be need for custom feats to be made to cover things you may need, such as spells, then the Editor can cover that.

So what do you really need?

Which is why I thought it would be easy to add a checkbox to the char creation sheet and that way the validator would know that at level 6 or 8 to stop telling you that your character needs to add skills or hp or spells etc.

I'd think the easiest way to do this would be to simply stop levelling after level 6/8. Instead, just add a Permanent Adjustment of +1 feat each time you get enough XP, and you're all set.

You would have to use the Editor to create a few of the new feats (for example, the ones that grant extra spell slots). But that should be doable enough.

Right, this is what I meant. After all, after hitting the level cap, you're not gaining any further levels, so why would you be hitting the add a level button?

And if you're adding the extra stuff via Permanent Adjustments, then you shouldn't be getting validation errors.

Gotcha...that wasn't what I envisioned the first time I read that...I can see that though...pretty good way to do it. Guerrilla Herolabbing if you will.

I suspect I'll end up having to add a few things in via the Editor and I could probably cobble together something that'd grant the extra feats, but the Adjustments thing is reliable and easy.

And I'm all for that.

Good luck with it and let us know your experiences with it - it'll be some time before my group gets to 8 and starts having to do anything out of the ordinary.

After doing some thinking about ways to track advances, I decided the need for the attached feat.

It unlocks at level 8 and grants you 3 skill points - it's the same a skill focus, except the 3 points don't have to be applied to the same skill.

You're welcome.

I'll probably need to work out some sort of Counter so we can keep track of how many advancements characters have after level 8, as that goes into CR and encounter difficulty.
