Sorry, newbie question for you ArmyBuilder gurus: I am using AB to
manage my Warmaster rosters, but I'd like to make some changes to the
Warmaster definitions and data files. I've already figured out how to
twiddle the data files using the ABCreator tool for some small
issues, but I also would like to change the abbreviations and order
of stats -- which requires more profound changes.

I know how to de- and recompile the definition file -- but what about
the data files? Am I missing something obvious?

What do you mean by 'abbreviations'? If you mean the composition group /
category abbreviations, then I'm afraid you're out of luck, as with the
order of stats. So many things depend on those abbreviations that if you
were to change them, you'd have to go through every warmaster file
making the changes as well.

Actually I just thought of a way to re-arrange the order of stats...
Just make the 'original' stats hidden, and create new stats at the end
of the list (in your preferred order) that depend on them.

That makes sense ... but the real duh question from my post: do I need to get the source data files (as text files) somehow, from someone, or can I decompile the .wrm (compiled data) files somehow?

<snipped -- various bits of good advice>

All good info, Colen -- thanks. I was actually planning on having to
touch all the data files. My problem, however, is that I don't HAVE
the uncompiled Warmaster data files. So here is the newbie part of
the question again: how do I get them? Do I have to decompile the
compiled data files, or do I try to get the source files from the
owner of the Warmaster data files, or ...?

Thanks,
J

ps apologies if this has already been sent ... my browser has been

You can load the .wrm files into ABCreator (obviously), or you should be
able to use the 'Save to text' option on the File menu to convert them to text.

Can't change stat names within ABCreator, so I need the Save to text
option -- which is disabled, so I'm assuming this puppy is locked.

Does *anybody* have the source files for the compiled .wrm files?

The author of the files would have them. His email address ought to be
included in the data files. If not, it should be on the Wolf Lair web-site.
Go to the data files section and it his contact info should be listed next
to the download link.

If the author remains AWOL for an extended period (i.e. not just on
vacation for a few days), let me know and I'll try to flush him out.
However, if he's not willing to provide unlocked files for you to use, then
that's his option.

Thanks, Rob
