So... I am making a gnomish druid/sorcerer and my animal companion is not leveling properly.

I am 3th level, so I have two levels in druid and one in sorcerer, but my animal is 3rd level. Is this going to happen at each level?

Why does my companion have all three instead of only druid levels?

A 2nd level druid's animal companion has 3HD according to Table 3-8: Animal Companion Base Statistics and thus shows as lvl 3.

From page 50 of the Core Rulebook

If a character receives an animal companion from more than one source, her effective druid levels stack for the purposes of determining the statistics and abilities of the companion.

and page 51 of the Core Rulebook (emphasis added)

Class Level: This is the character’s druid level. The druid’s class levels stack with levels of any other classes that are entitled to an animal companion for the purpose of determining the companion’s statistics.

The OP is correct, it should only count the character's druid levels.

The animal is not third level it has two hit dice. An animal companion gets 2 HD at first level and a third hit die at second level. It is working as it should per the rules.
