OK, here is what you can do (but there is one or two caveats you will
have to be aware of...)
1) In the CardVault/data/hcdc directory, open the hcdc.dat file with
an editor of some kind. I just use Notepad. (The Marvel heroes are in
starter.dat either in the same directory - if you merged your Marvel
and DC figures - or in the CardVault/data/hc_marvel directory if you
have not merged.)
2) BACKUP the hcdc.dat file but make sure you lose the .dat file
extension on the backup file or put it in a different directory, or
CardVault will read it as another .dat file and you will get
conflicts on the unique key for each model.
3) In the Editor, edit the name field on each model to remove the
(E), (V), (R) at the end of each model name. Save. So...
<card id="mvstart065" name="Annihilus (E)" description="" flavor="">
becomes
<card id="mvstart065" name="Annihilus" description="" flavor="">
4) Open CardVault and load the HeroClix set you just edited. Click on
the Sort Icon and set the sort order to be Release first, Card Name
second, and Rank third. (If you have Marvel and DC merged and you
DON'T want them separated, just set the sort on Card Name first, Rank
second.)
5) Go to Settings and UNCHECK "Merge Duplicate Models".
Now you will have your heroes sorted by name and Rank in the correct
Rank order (Rookie, then Experienced, then Veteran).
CAVEATS:
This all works great under the Deck Construction screens. And even
under Inventory, you can STILL sort them the same way.
The problem is in the current release of CardVault (V1.0 or V1.0b),
the views on the Inventory screen are 'frozen' and cannot be changed,
even if you change the .def file. (There is an Iventory View
definition in the .def file, but it is currently disabled in the
program.)
That means you are stuck with the current Inventory view for Heroclix
(which in my opinion, has problems even if you LEAVE the Rank in the
name because it does not display or print Model Numbers). So you CAN
sort by name and Rank with the modified files above, but you can't
view the Rank anywhere on the Inventory screen except in the details
windows if you open them and you can't print Rank OR Model Number to
your Inventory output files if you edit your files the way I have
mentioned above.
The OTHER Caveat is that your newly edited file is now incompatible
with any 'official' lists coming out in the future for
say, "Clobbering Time". You'd have to download the data file and edit
it yourself the same way as above to get your Clobbering Time figure
into the right order as well.
I keep going back and forth whether I like it better being able to
sort by Rank like I want to in Deck Construction and giving it up on
the Inventory screen, or whether it's more important to have Rank in
my inventory lists and a screwed up sort in Deck Construction. (NOTE
if you had Model number available in Inventory, I could live without
having Rank in Inventory.)
Thanks,
Doc
