Dismiss/delete familiar

I want to swap out a familiar from gaining the Improved Familiar feat but whenever I "Delete" the companion, it simply comes back when I click to add another one. Simply changing the familiar does wonky things with stats/feats/skills, etc. so I'd really rather kill it off.

Short of rebuilding the character using another portfolio, is there any way to permanently delete a companion?
 
You should just change the race directly on the familiar's Minion tab, there is no need to remove a familiar on the master's class tab. I'm not precisely sure what you mean by "wonky", but Improved familiars do work differently than normal familiars. They don't get the normal benefits a lesser familiar gets, and instead function just like the normal race statblock shown in the Bestiary.
