get a message thqat says they're not valid army builder files, and

If they're .zip files (as opposed to .ab files) try opening them
with something like winzip. If that can't open them, then download
them again - your file is corrupt. If it can open them, do the files
inside look like AB data files? There should be at least a
datadef.xyz file (replace .xyz with the game extension, such as .40k
for the 40k files) and a whole heap of other *.xyz files... If you
can see these files in the .zip file, then the last thing is to try
and extract them into the Army Builder "data" subdirectory...
Although if you can do this, then AB should have been able to do it
too...
If you're talking about .ab files, Netscape used to have trouble
with .ab files, thinking they were zip files and generally stuffing
things up. If you're using Netscape, make sure you use the "Save As"
option for a link instead of just clicking on it. (Although the
current versions of AB should be able to compensate for this
behaviour)..
Hope that helps,
Russell.

Just unzip the file in the data directory, and launch AB.
