I'm running AB version 2.2c on Win98 OSR 2. When I minmize AB I can't
maximize it again. I can see it on my taskbar and I can click on it
and select it, but it doesn't maximize. I also cannot right click on
it on the taskbar to get the roll out menu to appear and use the
maximize or restore option for it. Does anyone else have this
problem? I've noticed it happening for quite some time, but I don't
remember which version it started in. I only say something now as I
just lost a large roster I was working on, because the only thing I
could do was to shut it down with the task manager. I've noticed
happen on a Windows 2000 machine as well. Rob is this a bug?

Hi, I found that this happened to me in Win95 at 1 time. Did you
right click on the taskbar and try Undo Minimize All. This may work,
if it doesn't, then thats just how I got it to open again.

Cheers,
Peppy

I've occasionally had trouble when running AB along with other programs
(I can cite Word and the AB Creator as specific examples). It won't
minimize properly, and you can't click on AB to make it the active
program. The solution has been to minimize everything else that's running.

Have you tried running the System File Checker on Windows?

It seems pretty good a fixing all kinds of those little instability bugs
that you just shrug off most of the time, running through looking for
corrupted (or potentially corrupted) files and then replacing them from the
Windows CD. You can set it to always prompt and back-up if you're nervous of
leaving it to its own devices.

Start - Accessories - System Tools - Tools - System File Checker

The only way to accomplish what you describe within the roster window is to
create items that are automatically attached to units. Army Builder was not
designed to that sort of stuff, so there's no good way to accomplish it. I
would recommend instead including all the information within the unit notes
and simply have the user right-click on the unit to view all those notes.
This is the standard way that AB handles description notes for units and
selected options.

Thanks, Rob

Subject: Re: Setting up Composition Rules

Mathias' suggestion is a good one. I'll try to clarify here.

First of all, use composition groups for Individuals and Squads. You can
easily define a rule for each group that enforces the proper relationship.
Since mercenaries must still abide by the Individuals vs. Squads rule,
these are the proper things to make into composition groups.

Then you need to address mercenary limits. All mercenary units should be
assigned the type "Mercenary". Non-mercenary units can be left without any
special type assignment. Now you need to define a "trat" attribute that
limits the user to a one-to-one ratio between mercenary and non-mercenary
units. Since "trat" uses a ratio, it will scale to whatever size roster the
user creates. You can do this via the attribute below:

trat:!Mercenary@1u:Mercenary@1u

Based on the above attribute, there must be at least 1 NON-Mercenary unit
in the roster for every Mercenary unit in the roster. This satisfies your
second criterion listed below.

Hope this helps,
Rob

The roster notes simply show you what information will appear when the
roster gets printed. Therefore, using "noprint" controls what appears
within the roster notes. :-)

Sample source code for how to write extensions is included within the
Construction Kit, along with full documentation. In fact, the sample source
code is for the CAV extension. I don't know of anyone working on 40K roster
cards or official GW roster output, but both would be relatively
straightforward to create, using the sample source code as a good starting
point.

Hope this is helpful to someone out there.... :-)

Under certain conditions, it is possible to minimize AB while you have a
child window visible. Normally, this should not be possible (e.g. if you
have the Special Items form open, you can't access the main menu on the
window behind). However, I have been told that it is possible to accomplish
this under certain conditions. According to the information I've received,
it only occurs when an in-progress message is being displayed (e.g. while
loading data files or saving a roster). If you minimize AB while the
in-progress message is visible, AB will minimize and then become hung. This
is an obscure bug that would likely take a LOT of work to try and figure
out. Fixing it also assumes that I can reproduce the problem on my end, and
sort far I haven't been able to reproduce it on my system.

All I can suggest is to be careful not to minimize AB when there is an
in-progress message visible. If anyone can come up with more detailed
information that allows me to reproduce this problem, then I will take a
look and try to gauge how much work it will take to fix the problem.
Failing that, it's really difficult to fix a bug that you can't reproduce,
so it will likely remain unfixed until I can reproduce it. :-)

Thanks, Rob

Rob,

I can't get it to reproduce right now. I don't remember any in
progress messages at the time. I'll definately make note of exactly
what's happening next time. I'm usually more observant of these kind
of things. Troubleshooting PCs and Servers is my job. This problem is
a common thing on my machine.

Thanks,

Joe

Hi,

I'm using AB2.2C and the V3.7 40K files. I'm having trouble getting
the correct number of attacks on Assault Terminators using the
Imperial Fists list. When equipped with 2 Lightning Claws, the
Terminators should get a base of 3 attacks. Currently, they are give
2*.

Not that big a deal, I know...

It is like that because you can take thunderhammer/storm shield or lightning
claw pairs.

If you mix the unit's weapons, then the display will be off. (TH+SS does not
increase your # of attacks, while the LC's do. Their has to be a way to show
this.)

The * is the best way to show it, although I understand that if you give the
whole unit LC's it doesn't make sense... but their's no other choice I can
think of, other than addind a 'sub-unit' of terminators with alternate
weapons... but that would be obnoxious.
