>First of all, excuse me for my bad

I´m german, I´ve got the same problem, I can read you, so no
problem...

> I am creating (or better traslating and fixing with new
rules) data
> files from Warhammer 40k in Italian,

Well, now we are at least two guys here begging Rob to start
the work for the multi-language version of Armybuilder. =8-)

I once did some translations of the 40k files to german, so
I know what you will face in your attempt. Let me tell you,
as long as Armybuilder does not support other languages, you
are opening up a huge can of worms.

> I work with abcreator for armybuilder 1.4d

Make the update to 2.0b. Any effort in 1.4d right now is
absolutely wasted IMHO.

>1)I would like to know how to lock data
>files I created, because the lock option
>in abcreator doesn't seems to work.

"Locking" only locks the decompilation of the files with
ABdata and ABundef . The data accessible in ABcreator can´t
be locked at all as far as I know. And the lock relates to
your specific machine IIRC, so even if you lock it, you
still should be able do decompile the files on the PC you
locked them.

> 2)Is there an editor for army builder 2.0?

Of course. You can download ABCreator at the same place
where you get Armybuilder 2.0b. Have a look at
www.wolflair.com

>3)Do you think I should add credits to
>the creator of the data files I'm traslating
>IF I decide to release them in public,

First you should ask them whether they agree to your actions
at all. And then yes, of course you should.

>I must add that this is not exactly a
>translation, I use those data files as
>base, to which I added many things
>and modified many other...

The can of worms just got even bigger...

>4)I'm looking for some help with this big
>traslation work, I would like to complete
>WH40k, WHFB and Mordeihm,

Let me ask you: Do you have anything other to do than that?
I think you don´t know what you are starting. I don´t want
to discourage you, but the amount of work you are facing may
be much more than you see in the first place.

Especially when systems and armylists are changing as much
as WH40k is still doing and WHFB is only beginning to do.
It´s not easy doing work on a changing subject. You will
discover that there are some extremely boring time-consuming
jobs, that you will have to do over and over again every
time the creator of the files changed something in the
structure to fit new armylists or rules.

You must not only translate, but in the process you will
have to build up a specific Warhammer-dictionairy to stay
consistent in the choice of words and you will have to make
this dictionairy consistent with the use of the words in the
codices of your language and your White Dwarf. This is not
to be forgotten. Otherwise the result will be of little use
and you will be better off sticking to the english data.

I tried all of this once, but now I doubt I will start
working on it again as long as different languages are not
supported by Armybuilder itself. Hey Rob, can you hear me? I
keep waiting. =8-)

bye
Wolfgang

As I wrote before, everything works fine.
I really don't think that there is the need of an armybuilder support
for italian. I started the traslation because armybuilder is the
faster and easier way to create armies, BUT those GW italian
traslators WERE SO DOG TO CHANGE ALL NAMES!.
For example, in englis there is the nice opposition between Dark
Eldar's Dark Lance, and Eldar's Bright Lance. Exactly same weapon...
... here in italy NOT, they had to find very naughty names. Dark
Lance become CANNONE ANTIMATERIA (Antimatter Cannon), while Bright
Lance something other...
There were MANY ways to traslate, they decided to CHANGE. Dark Lance
could be Lancia Oscura, and it doesn't sounds bad.

My goal is hard, but as I said before, but I'm working hard to
achieve it. 100% perferct italian traslation + all revision in
whitedwarf.

The information I received did not have the Destroyer listed as being in
the book. Hence it's choosable from the "Allies" menu.

But does anyone know if there are any plans for a very cut down version, (i.e only one race at a given time) of Army Builder for Palmtops and other hand held P.C's? Something like that could really help me out when I'm despretrly revising my army list before a game, lol.

Thanks,.
Marc

I wholeheartedly second that! Even if it was just a Palm applet that let
you sync prepared armies to your Palm for viewing, it would rock!

One army? Dark Eldar? Those are a rather isolated army and
so quite an easy list. Believe me it will get much worse
with the whole imperial complex...

And by this you were wasting all the bug-fixing done to
these files during the last months. I don´t know if this is
such a good idea...

> As I wrote before, everything works fine.

I had reached exactly this point rather soon with the Dark
Eldar too when I did my translation work. Have a look at the
german files, I was also finished with Orks and all the
Space Marines files available at that time.

No, what we are needing is the general support of
armybuilder for different languages.

>I started the traslation because

If you think that the german translators were using the
english names, you better think again...

Go ahead. Knock yourself out. If you have nothing better to
do, thats ok. I for my part wouldn´t mind translating the
english files, this is work enough, but it´s work that makes
sense. But I won´t start doing the "cut and paste"-tango
again every month to keep those everchanging files up to
date, so I´ll prefer waiting for language support.

bye
Wolfgang

[Scott Balfour] <end snips>

Army Builder can save files as HTML. Palm computers can read HTML. (AvantGo anyone?)

Sounds like you've already got it.

Cheers
