Nope, because I've never seen said book and have no idea when it will be
released. When it's actually released properly, I'll add them.

Ah, right. Is it an official GW publication, or is it just Forge World
who're doing it?

It's being produced by forgeworld(who as you know are a subdivision og Games
Workshop), but the whole book is chapter approved, so it's legal in all
senses.
I've got a copy if anyone wants any particular stats or info. (No
Everything!'s, please)

Do you know if it'll be sold in GW stores, or do you have to mail order
it?

Subject: Army Composition Rules
I'm throwing together some Data File for a relatively new system, and
I'm having trouble with the army composition rules. I've got
composition groups Sqds, Indv, Chrs, and Vhcl. There can be one unit
of Indv, Chrs, or Vhcl for each unit of Sqds.
So here's what I've tried:
Sqds@>=Indv+Chrs+Vhcl,Indv@?,Chrs@?,Vhcl@?
This appears to give me validation errors if the number of MODELS in
Indv is equal to or greater than the number of MODELS in Sqds.
Sqds:urelu>=Indv+Chrs+Vhcl,Indv@?,Chrs@?,Vhcl@?
ABcreator doesn't even want to accept this, telling me there's
something wrong with the line. I haven't gotten any instance of ?
rel? to work, though it seems that would be the solution to my
problem.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Dear Rob!
One little suggestion for future updates. Can you ask before installing the
tutorial files during the installation process? This is really a minor
point, I know, but one has always to delete the files after installing.
So...
Thanks,
Dieter

This is a great idea! I've got the request on the todo list for replacing
the line, but I never got it implemented in V2.0. There were just too many
other critical things that needed to be added, and I didn't have a good
solution that both promoted the store AND promoted AB (including the
all-important copyright notice). This idea addresses that issue nicely, and
it has now been added to the todo list for the V2.1 release. Please note
that V2.1 won't be happening for a little while still, but it's definitely
on the list.
Thanks, Rob

Subject: Re: Hi I'm new, and I need some help. lol
You definitely need to go through - not just read - the Tutorial. As Colen
pointed out, it gives you a basic understanding of all of the fundamental
facets of data file construction. AFTER you've done the Tutorial, the next
step is to familiarize yourself with the current 40K files. This will
enable you to identify the best way to integrate your new vehicle within
the existing 40K data files, leveraging all of the mechanisms and options
that Colen has already put into place. I'm certain that Colen (and probably
a few others) would be happy to answer questions about the nuances of the
40K files, but their patience will be short if you are asking questions
that are covered in the Tutorial.
Then, using some of the existing
vehicles in the 40K files as an example, you can create your new vehicle
and setup the options and items appropriately for it.
Of all the data files in existence, the 40K files are definitely the most
complex (IMHO). This is due to the vast complexities involved in creating
rosters for 40K, plus the files were initially written with older versions
of AB and weren't able to take advantage of the new features in many
places. You will definitely need to come up to speed before you can
reasonably expect to make changes/additions and have them work readily.
Good luck, and let us know if you run into questions about things after
going through the Tutorial....
Thanks, Rob

This is on the todo list, but it's a comparatively low priority task when
compared to adding major features to the product.
One of these days,
people will stop asking for all sorts of new features (yeah, right! <G>)
and I'll be able to get to these little nagging details.
Thanks, Rob

Subject: Re: Army Composition Rules
The problem with the composition rule you're using is that you are MIXING
the syntax from V1 and V2. If you use "sqds:urelu...", then all other
groups must use the SAME syntax. This means that the "Indv" group has to
use the "indv:any" syntax, as do the other remaining groups.
If you insert a ';' (semi-colon) character within any of the notes
sections, AB will treat this as the insertion of a newline.
Thanks, Rob

Sqds@>=Indv+Chrs+Vhcl,Indv@?,Chrs@?,Vhcl@?
This appears to give me validation errors if the number of MODELS in
Indv is equal to or greater than the number of MODELS in Sqds.
Sqds:urelu>=Indv+Chrs+Vhcl,Indv@?,Chrs@?,Vhcl@?
ABcreator doesn't even want to accept this, telling me there's
something wrong with the line. I haven't gotten any instance of ?
rel? to work, though it seems that would be the solution to my
problem.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I'm also wondering how to get AB to go to the next line in the
comments or notes field of an option.

Thanks, Rob

You definitely need to go through - not just read - the Tutorial. As Colen
pointed out, it gives you a basic understanding of all of the fundamental
facets of data file construction. AFTER you've done the Tutorial, the next
step is to familiarize yourself with the current 40K files. This will
enable you to identify the best way to integrate your new vehicle within
the existing 40K data files, leveraging all of the mechanisms and options
that Colen has already put into place. I'm certain that Colen (and probably
a few others) would be happy to answer questions about the nuances of the
40K files, but their patience will be short if you are asking questions
that are covered in the Tutorial.

vehicles in the 40K files as an example, you can create your new vehicle
and setup the options and items appropriately for it.

Thanks, Rob

This is on the todo list, but it's a comparatively low priority task when
compared to adding major features to the product.

people will stop asking for all sorts of new features (yeah, right! <G>)
and I'll be able to get to these little nagging details.

Thanks, Rob
