Hello!
I am a Wood Elves player for Warhammer. I noticed that in Dave´s file a
captain is mandatory for the Glade Guards and Archers and can not be
deactivated. In my (german) Ravening Hordes book that is not the case.
Any comments?
Thanks,
Dieter

Hi Dieter,
I was going to write the 6th Ed. files but I believe the guys who
wrote the RH files have teamed up in a joint effort to get them out.
So I'm kinda being lazy and waiting for them.

John, you are correct! We are getting near a kick-off version of our lists combined which will incorporate the Empire Book and the UK RH changes (hopefully Sunday). This will be the set of files we will keep on revising in the future. Our other lists will have the last versions available (I'm doing one more version before putting it in stone) but will be marked as US RH only (no UK RH changes or new army books).

I have no idea why but changing the signum to this

Allows it for all the marine chapters and not for any

Really? That's strange.
Let's take the Signum as an example. Here are the rules it uses to
determine availability; if any of these are true, it's available.
itst:!type=smTermi&(type=?Techmar|type=Salamander)
OK,
I'll take a shot at it from the perspective of formal logic, so it might not quite match programming logic in AB, but here goes...
smTermi & (type=?Techmar | type= Salamander) is the test you are setting up, right? You want to fail this test in order to get the item, right?
Is a warboss smTermi? No, so the first half of conjuction is false is false.
Is a warboss ?Techmar or Salamander? No, the the second half of the conjunction is false.
Therefor the conjunction is false.
Therefor, the item is available (isn't the !type at the left, a negation?).
In short, you've interpreted your test as ~P & (Q or R)
when in reality the test seems to me to be ~(P & (Q or R)).
Let me know if I'm way off base here, but I think the way you've diagrammed the rule later in your posting is inconsistent with the way you've written it above.
My opinions are, of course, worth exactly what you've paid for them.

I believe I figured out the problem.
The problem with this is ?Techmar is not a unit type, it is an unique ID.
Also, it is Techmr not Techmar.
Change the line to:
itst:!type=smTermi&(reg=smTechmr|type=Salamander)

Subject: Clan War DE and example Crab Army
First,
I think this is a great aid! Great Job!! Well worth the money! I hope
this becomes an economic success!
My questions is this. I was trying to load in the example armies
provided in DE and got stuck on one unit, I think it is the Zombie
unit in the Crab Army (definitely the Crabs). I am at work, the book
is at home. I asked the experts at the Clan War list and they all
presumed that I did not enough to attach the unit to a leader or
vice-versa. I did, the choices for the unit though did not give the
Crab personality that the DE shows, so perhaps there is something
else
I am missing?
Thanks,
David

Subject: Re: Hey Rob, small problem
Nope. Not a small problem. I wasn't sure of the extent, and it seemed
likely to result in a back-and-forth of emails, so I didn't want to clutter
this list until I got it sorted out.
The problem is that V2.0b started including the file "wininet.dll" in the
installation. A few users complained V2.0a wouldn't launch due to the
auto-notify stuff requiring that file. Unfortunately, installing this file
opens up a nasty chain reaction of DLL dependencies (I'm now not sure how
far the chain goes). If the full set isn't replaced properly, things break.
I had thought I had identified the proper dependency chain and included
them in the installer, but it's not documented well by Microsoft, so I
screwed up - and my testing didn't uncover the combinations where it went
awry.
By re-installing Windows, you got the file set properly sorted out. The
reported problem was also resolved by re-installing IE4.0, which was the
original browser installed on the user's machine. This served the same
purpose without requiring him to get out the Windows discs. I would assume
that this solution also would have worked for you.
I immediately removed this file from the installer once the problem was
reported, so no one who downloaded after that should encounter this issue.
I need to figure out the complete set of files required by AB (probably by
trial-and-error since the Microsoft information seems pretty useless) and
then make that available as a separate download for anyone that doesn't
have wininet installed on their system.
Sorry for the headaches on this one. It's been quite a headache for me as
well.
Thanks, Rob

Important note to data file writers!
Type comparisons use the '?' character as a wildcard. Once the '?'
character is encountered, all remaining text in the type is IGNORED. If the
types match up to the '?', then the types are declared a match.
Consequently, the use of the '?' as the first character is effectively a
global match - i.e. it matches EVERYTHING. The problem in the above syntax
is the use of "type=?Techmar", which matches anything and results in the
items appearing.
AB uses simple wildcards - not the highly complex syntax supported by
Unix's "grep" command. This is mentioned in the documentation, but I just
thought I'd post a reminder, since this is the source of the problem in the
current 40K files. Colen has already been notified about this.
I have no idea how much work this will be for Colen to fix it, though. :-(
Thanks, Rob

Subject: Re: Clan War DE and example Crab Army
I saw your post on the Clan War list and it didn't include any detail on
which unit and personality were involved. That's why you got the response
you did. By noting the troops involved below, I was able to investigate. It
appears that the sample army in Daimyo Edition brings up an interesting
potential conflict in the DE rules. Aromoro's Kiso says he can only lead
undead troops. But the rules for personalities state that an allied unit
may only be lead by a personality from that Clan, which implies that the
Plague Zombies (allied unit in a Crab army) should NOT be able to be led by
Aromoro (a non-Shadowlands personality). The question is whether Aromoro's
Kiso is intended to override this normal restriction, even though it
doesn't explicitly say it does. The example army implies that this may be
the case, but I'm not an authority on this.
Army Builder is enforcing the general rules, hence the inability to select
Aromoro to lead the unit.
This issue needs to be addressed by Ken Carpenter, so I'm posting this
message to the DE play-test list, where Ken frequents. Please check back
with me on this after I've had a chance to hear what Ken says. Also, if a
rules clarification is required on this, I assume that one of the play-test
folks will post it on the Clan War list, too.
Thanks, Rob

It's probably better for them that I deleted their addresses some time
ago.

Thanks,
David

Thanks, Rob
