I believe this came up a while back. It's particularly valuable for
historical players, as they have figures more likely to be used in
different armies.
Rob thought it was an interesting idea, but he was obviously overloaded
with 2.0 stuff and punted thinking too deeply about it until later.
I would love to see something like:
- I enter in a figure (or base of figures), how many I have, and what game
systems the figure can be used for. Possibly some other information such
as time constraints or something like that. Possibly also whether it's
fully painted, or I just own the lead.
- The software looks through the army lists installed on the machine, and
determines (through some massive hand waving) which armies the figure could
be used for.
- When I create a roster using one of those lists, AB indicates (in some
fashion) what units I already have figures for, and what units I still need
to buy/paint.
There's a ton of possibilities here.

This would be a good option - you tell AB what models you have, and then
when you create a roster, its cross-matches your army selection with the
mini collection and tells you which models you dont have to make the roster.

It's on the drawing board. I've given it a lot of thought, and it's
definitely something I *WANT* to write, but I just haven't had time yet.
There are some nasty issues involved to do this "right", so it's not a
trivial matter of a couple weeks of code. This is a strong candidate for
"what's next", and I'll be making that decision probably by the end of
September.

One of the things that doesn't work very well ATM is the unit transport

I've been doing this by just having an army list made up of everything I've
got, but it'd be cool if there were a way to specify something like:
23 orcs with spears: suitable for Boyz or Big Unz, with or without light
armour.
And then choose an army from a list of these. Unfortunately, if there was
a particularly easy way of specifying this, we'd probably be using it
already for making army lists, as it amounts to specifying a separate list.

Subject: Unit size restrictions
Hi,
I am attempting to put together a parent/child unit relationship as follows:
Parent unit: normal size is 8:28
Child unit: optional and can contain 1 model for every 2 models of the parent.
For each model in the child unit, the maximum count of the parent unit should be reduced by 1 (so you never exceed a maximum of 28 models in total)
e.g. unit A has 19 models, child unit B has 9 models = 28 models total.
e.g. unit A has 23 models, child unit B has 5 models = 28 models total.
The parent and child units are currently linked via an option (unit:child@var)
I have got the ratio of 2 parent models must exist for 1 child model, but can't work out how to restrict the total size of the parent/child combination to be 28.
Any ideas ?
Cheers,
Simon Day

Cool. This will be a very useful feature. *BUT* do you mind
if I say that I would love to see foreign language support
first? =;-)
Right now as AB 2.0 got released, me and some friends are
waiting for Colen´s files to get to a rather stable state,
then we would like to start translating the 40k files and
maybe the Mordheim and Necromunda files into german.
But if you are planning to add foreign language support into
Armybuilder in the forseeable future, it might be wise to
wait a little longer and keep using english rosters in the
meantime...

Subject: Re: Unit size restrictions
You can't combine "ratp" and "coun", since that's a no-no. So, I would use
"coun" on the child unit to ensure that the parent/child total model count
is enforced. Then I would define a hidden stat. A hidden option attached to
the child unit would increment this stat in the parent based on the model
count (e.g. "prnt:stat+(#)"). Then I would define an "scmp" attribute for
the parent unit that compares the hidden stat to the model count of the
parent unit, reporting a validation error if the proper ratio isn't maintained.
Please note that this proposed solution requires that you use V2.0.
Hope this helps,
Rob

A solution for implementing foreign language support has been mapped out
for AB. However, the product needs to reach a sufficient enough user-base
before the extra effort (multiple weeks) is justified. There is also the
issue of ensuring that all the important data file sets get translated,
which is not within my control for the GW systems. Based on these issues, I
have put all work on language translation on hold for AB. Once both issues
have been reconciled in some way, I will start working on the code to
support it all, but I would guess that's still at least 6 months away.
I'm sure this isn't what you were hoping to hear, but it's definitely the
honest situation.
Thanks, Rob

This is a strong candidate for
"what's next", and I'll be making that decision probably by the end of
September.

I've been doing this by just having an army list made up of everything I've

23 orcs with spears: suitable for Boyz or Big Unz, with or without light
armour.
And then choose an army from a list of these. Unfortunately, if there was
a particularly easy way of specifying this, we'd probably be using it
already for making army lists, as it amounts to specifying a separate list.

You can only use Ork vehicle upgrades on a looted vehicle - says so in black

Thanks, Rob
