Subject: v2.0 Gromril weapon bug
Hello,
I've upgraded to Army Builder 2.0 and run a Reiklander warband in a
Mordheim campaign. I think that I've come across a bug either in
Army Builder or in the Mordheim files. I'm not sure where it is, so
I'll try to give as much information as possible (probably too much)
so that someone can fix the bug.
My warband came across a Gromril axe. I listed gave it to one of my
Youngbloods. I listed it by paying 5 g.c. for the axe and 15 g.c.
for the gromril weapon 'special equipment' for a total of 20 g.c., as
gromril weapons cost 4x the normal cost of a weapon.
I saved the warband and the next time I tried to re-open that warband
it gave the following error message: "Error reading data from roster
file." Sometimes when I tried to re-open it, I got this message and
it would then kick me back to the screen where I can chose to Create
or Load a roster, Import files. Other times, after I got the message
and clicked on "OK," it would try to open a new Dwarven
Treasurehunters warband. This lead me to believe that the gromril
weapon might be the problem.
So, I created and saved a new, stripped down Reiklander warband,
closed AB and reopened it and had no trouble loading the roster.
However, when I added the gromril weapon, saved the roster and tried
to close, re-open and reload the warband, I got the above error
message.
Is this really the problem? If so, can it be fixed?
Thanks,
Bill Le Chat

Hey Colen,
There's an error in the Chaos datafiles for the bikers. It's listed has
having to take a minimum of 2 specials, instead of a maximum of 2. Just a
heads up. I fixed it in my file, but you may hear some screaming later from

Actually, I didn't read far enough in... At the time I wrote that message, I
was under the impression that IC's could not take IC wargear if they were
accompanied by a command squad. I have since learned since then and now know
why the IC's pay more for their wargear.
I believe I found my answer in the Q&A.
Thanks,
Shawn Campbell

Subject: Command Squads and Wargear, was Re: Salamanders Artificer Armour
Hello all
Taking a command squad doesn't affect wargear choices! This is a common misconception about independent characters and wargear. What the line about "unless he takes a command squad..." means is that the character only functions as an independent character (i.e. being able to join squads, etc.) if he doesn't have a command squad. It doesn't affect wargear selection in any way. This has been clarified on several occasions. You can have a space marine commander in terminator armour leading a command squad in power armour, or one on a bike leading a squad on foot (though all that does is spoil his mobility by enforcing coherence).
Cheers,
Phil G.

Both Colen and I *JUST* got back into town less than 24 hours ago from
GenCon. Consequently, we have some catching up to do.
I just tried this quickly and it worked for me. However, there *IS* a
problem that was uncovered last week when saving rosters. If you include
single- or double-quote character in the roster name or notes, the saved
roster file will likely be unreadable. I've got this on the priority list
of things to fix, but that's going to be about a week before I get all the
other emergencies sorted out first. Please verify if this is the real
problem you are encountering.
Thanks, Rob

Hi,
I find that AB crashes when I try to switch game systems. Is it because I have a roster open at the time or is there something more serious wrong here?

AB should not be crashing on the switch, and it's been running quite stably
(i.e. no crashes) in that regard to the best of my knowledge. Please
provide me with the following information via private email (to avoid
cluttering this list):
Game system you are switching FROM
Game system you are switching TO
Saved copy of the roster you have open when switching
Memory on your system
Video card on your system
Anything else you think might be useful to help figure this one out
I'll investigate the problem and see what I can uncover. However, it's
really tough to fix a problem if I can't reproduce it on my computers, so
please provide as much info as possible to help me reproduce the problem.
Thanks, Rob

It's there... I think there's an "issue" with the new itst: attribute.
I'll add a workaround for now.

The rmdr: attribute that controls the funky stuff is specifically
limited to one per unit. Changing it would take ages and not be worth
the effort, according to Rob.

It'll work slightly better if you qualify the attr attribute with a

I'd imagine the new files will have a .rav or .wf6 (or whatever)
extension, at least that's the way I'd do it. If they don't, just rename
all the "whatever.wfb" files to "whatever.wf5". Note that using
"whatever.wfb5" won't work, because of some odd bug in windows
functions.

It just means someone doesn't know about ABExport. Just unzip it as

My bad. In the big 'Space wolves getting proper HQ units' conversion
several things went wrong, this appears to be one of them.

Aargh. I wondered when this would come up
>Does any one know if this is just a bug in the files or what?
It's an Issue.
Here's the deal. There are basically 2 ways the Emperor's Champion can
be modelled, that I can think of. (Anyone thinking of others, please,
let me know).
1) The way he is now. This ensures he doesn't take up an HQ unit, but
requires you to actually have some HQ in the first place. If you don't
have any HQ, just take the standard Emperor's Champion as a special
character choice - you don't need the extra HQ slots anyway, do you?
2) The same way that Imperial Guard Infantry Squads are done, using the
'Othr' group. The irritating thing about this is that I'll have to
modify every single composition rule for every single Space Marine-
derived army to let the Othr group be included, which would be very
boring. At some point in the future I'm going to have to do something
like it anyway, because the current race rules are an absolute
nightmare, but I've been trying to put it off until I can do something
else to it at the same time.
Will it cause great weeping, wailing and gnashing of teeth if I leave it
as option 1 for now, or are there no major issues with doing so?

I thought it would look more internally consistent (not to mention being
easier for me to handle) if there were seperate {Grand} Master of the
Deathwing entries from the usual Master and Grand Master. In a Deathwing
army he's not treated as a special character, you may notice. If enough
people object violently, I'll change it; does anyone have any strong
opinions on the matter?

As soon as you add him, the terminator armour cost of 25 points kicks
in.

There were several large banners at various points saying "No! Don't do

Thanks,

Thanks, Rob

It's there... I think there's an "issue" with the new itst: attribute.
I'll add a workaround for now.

The rmdr: attribute that controls the funky stuff is specifically
limited to one per unit. Changing it would take ages and not be worth

It'll work slightly better if you qualify the attr attribute with a

I'd imagine the new files will have a .rav or .wf6 (or whatever)
extension, at least that's the way I'd do it. If they don't, just rename
all the "whatever.wfb" files to "whatever.wf5". Note that using
"whatever.wfb5" won't work, because of some odd bug in windows
functions.

You're in the right place

Not that I'm aware of. Something will hopefully be getting done soon
about datafiles for Epic2nd, but I've never even played Epic 1st ed.

Give it to a single Nob (added using the 'Add Additional Nob' option)
and it'll work. Otherwise all 5 Nobz get it.

I'm working on this rather annoying problem at the moment. Or rather, I
would be had I had more than 1 hour of sleep on the plane back from Gen
Con last night.

It just means someone doesn't know about ABExport. Just unzip it as
normal, and send them an annoyed email asking them to do it properly
next time.

(Anyone thinking of others, please,
let me know).

Don't do
it! Your saved rosters won't work!" I think they were meant to be a
particularly subtle clue....
