How do I get this to work? When I open a character up it does not give me this option. I have to open each one up individually so I have multiple hero labs open at all times.
 
You can open the second character in the same portfolio as the first within the character menu. Either Create New Hero to create a new one or Import Hero From Portfolio to grab one you've already made, or Import Stock Hero to import something from a Bestiary, the GMG, etc.

Once you have a second character in the same portfolio, the Dashboard will be visible by default, but you can turn it off (and then back on again) in the view menu.
