We encounterd a situation in supernatural where one of our players had a asset that let him resist damage taken. we came across a creature that was using magic to suck the life force out of him and that asset wouldnt apply when damage was put in.

their needs to be a selection somehow that will override all armor and assets to be able to cover these situations.
 
Unless you select an armor location for the damage to be applied to, there's no armor applied to that attack.

Which asset are you referring to? Each asset has its own script that would cover how it functions, so I can't give a general answer. For example, the Soft complication in Serenity makes you take +1 stun whenever you're wounded, but it also has checkbox in the Activated Abilities section on the In-play tab to let you turn it off.
